Solving simultaneous equations
Lesson presentations and activities
This lesson is intended as an introduction to Simultaneous Equations, where students solve picture-based puzzles without using formal Algebra. The idea is that the following lesson they can see equations given algebraically and see how it is effectively the same thing! If you liked this resource then please check out my other stuff on TES!

An interesting, and gentle, way of introducing simultanoeus equations. Thank you for sharing.

This is a really nice way of introducing the topic - I've used it with my Year 8's as an intro into some of their Y9 work and it worked well. Thank you!
This is an excel spreadsheet with a practical activity for introducing the principles of simultaneous equations. There are pairs of cards with differing quantities of two items and their total cost so students have to find the cost of one item then substitute to find the cost of the other (like with simultaneous equations!). The spreadsheet is editable so the price of the items can be changed, plus the quantities of each item, allowing differentiation. Please let me know if you find any bugs or could suggest any edits.
Enjoy! ;-)Reviews

Good for building up students' skills on this topic. Some of the prices seem somewhat unrealistic, however! Thanks for sharing
A sequence of 4 lessons on Simultaneous Equations designed for a D/C KS4 group. The structure of solving a Simultaneous Equation is clearly shown and starter activities are used to highlight key topics covered over the previous weeks. All questions are given on the board so pupils work independently and share ideas with class during a group discussion. Please use and let me know what you think. I do not claim to own all of the resources published here. Many are adapted from other TES users.

This a rich, Arithmagon activity on solving simultaneous equations.
I love Arithmagons as they allow consolidation of key topics when going Forwards, and then opportunities for extension, creativity and discovery when working Backwards. They are also really easy to modify to suit the particular needs of your class.
For all the Arithmagon activities in this series, together with teaching notes and extra information, please visit http://www.mrbartonmaths.com/arithmagon.htm

Practice questions, homeworks and assessments
Ideal for GCSE revision, this worksheet contains exam-type questions that gradually increase in difficulty. This sheet covers Linear Simultaneous Equations.
These review sheets are great to use in class or as a homework. They are also excellent for one-to-one tuition and for interventions.
For similar-style revision sheets on other topics, click -->tes.com/../more...
Answers are included, as is a NEW STYLE of PowerPoint, which allows individual questions to be selected for enlarged display onto a screen. The answer can then be worked out ‘live’ by the teacher (or student) or a single click will reveal my solution. This not only helps in class, but it is also very useful for a student who is revising at home.Reviews

Great stuff
Clive is tackling a simultaneous equations homework but as per usual is making errors. There are three sets of linear simultaneous equations to correct and a linear/quadratic to look at. I have tried to cover regular errors for students to spot, correct and discuss.

Some REALLY interesting problems involving simultaneous equations here.
This is a set of 6 sheets of increasingly difficult simultaneous equations designed to make students think and discuss how to work through their solutions by giving them different parts of the process. They include simultaneous equations that involve a linear and a non-linear equation. This is also designed to stretch at GCSE or could be used at the start of A level.

This carefully selected compilation of exam questions has fully-worked solutions designed for students to go through at home, saving valuable time in class.
Click 👉 tes.com/../Exam Question Practice… to download question compilations for more than 50 other topics.
I usually print these questions as an A5 booklet and issue them in class or give them out as a homework. I also make them available for a student who wants to do focused independent study on a topic.
