    Angles in polygons

    Lesson presentations and activities

    • A treasure hunt requiring knowledge of interior and exterior angles. Two sets of questions to dissuade pupils from just following each other! Mistakes on first version now fixed.

    • Based on an image from NCTM, pupils have to work out all of the angles in each polygon in the diagram. A couple of necessary facts are given to start, namely the 20 degree angle, the fact that triangle W is isosceles and that S is a regular hexagon and a couple of right angles. Answers on page 2.

Very nce resource, thanks. If we want to discourage students from making assumptions based on what they see then we also need to say that J & R are parallelograms, I & N are rhombuses (rhombi?) and K is symmetrical.

Still a good resource, challenges students to use a mix of angle facts.

    Practice questions, homeworks and assessments

    • Find the missing angles in each of the polygons. Students will need to know how to work out the total angle sum in each polygon before they attempt this worksheet. Angles are all multiples of 5 so this could be done without a calculator. Finishes with some work on regular polygons.

    • These two worksheets require students to think how to use their knowledge of interior and exterior angles in polygons. The sheets can be used for work in class or as a homework. I love these sheets because the questions allow students to get involved in good, healthy mathematical discussion.

Excellent questions, thank you for sharing!

    • Ideal for GCSE revision, this worksheet contains exam-type questions that gradually increase in difficulty. This sheet covers interior and exterior angles in polygons. The complete range of KS3/GCSE skills are covered and there are some problems solving questions at the end.

These review sheets are great to use in class or as a homework. They are also excellent for one-to-one tuition and for interventions.

For similar-style revision sheets on other topics, click 👉 tes.com/../more...

Answers are included, as is a NEW STYLE of PowerPoint, which allows individual questions to be selected for enlarged display onto a screen. The answer can then be worked out ‘live’ by the teacher (or student) or a single click will reveal my solution. This not only helps in class, but it is also very useful for a student who is revising at home 😀.

    • There are LOADS of angles to find here in this layering of regular polygons. Students start by finding the interior angles they know but soon have to use irregular polygon properties, parallel lines, angles round a point at more. This is differentiated by outcome and should keep even the brightest sparks busy for a while especially trying to find the angles in the white polygons that are not shaded.
