The link on the first page is a short video showing how bearings are useful in a real life application.
For task 3 I give students a tube map (the small leaflet style that you can pick up in tube stations) - this saves on colour photocopying if you can get a bundle at once! Please leave a comment if you find it useful!

Jack Sparrow has hidden some treasure on an island. Students need to follow the bearings to locate the treasure. Answer: Hangman's Tree. Plenary task also uses the map and is a revision aid for other aspects of the angles topic. It is a rolling powerpoint, timings may need to be changed depending on the ability of the group.

This was terrific for my year 7's. I was looking for a short 1-lesson intro to Bearings (that they will cover in Y8). And they really enjoyed this. Thanks.

Many thanks!
Students must use the clues and a map to work out where the treasure is hidden in a fictitious town. Involves lots of measuring/drawing bearings.

Great! We just did the questions from page 2 as they have practiced page 1 type questions. Kept them engaged.

A great set of problems for students to apply their knowledge and skills with.
Five differentiated worksheets (with detailed solutions) that allow students to take the first steps, then strengthen and extend their skills in working out bearings from diagrams. These sheets are good to use in class with younger students, but also make a great homework.

I am astonishingly flabbergasted, as this bewildering worksheet stuns me to the core. Unerringly perplexing!
