You get 5 stars just for the slide on 'which pizza is the best value'. The rest is good too. Diolch

A practical lesson to help students "discover" the area of a circle. Followed by a few examples to consolidate learning. It is essential that they have previously worked out the circumference of a circle and understand pi.

Perfect. Absolutely shows students where the 'area of a circle' formula comes from. Great classroom activity! Thanks.
A while ago I uploaded a set of resources on calculating the areas of shapes on flags, see here:
https://www.tes.com/teaching-resource/areas-of-flags-6327719
A number of people messaged me asking if I had one for circles - and here is is now! I had to get creative with finding flags I could use, and I’d recommend that you have already had a lesson on Area and Circumference before this, as the questions get very challenging! Thank you to @1hannahjones for making a number of corrections and clarifications!

Really engaging way of getting students to think about compound shapes with circles.

I made this as a progress check to go with an observation lesson. It is intended for use on mini whiteboards.
You must 'enable content' when the document opens for the file to work.
You can show/hide each level of difficulty by clicking on the S/H buttons. Putting your student names in the cells AA1 - AA30 will allow you to generate a name at random. Clicking on the shapes will reveal one answer at a time.Reviews

A range of questions with answers asking the students to find the area and circumference of various real life circles. Each one has a brief piece of information with it ( it is from wikipedia so do let me know if it isn't correct).
Last two questions should challenge the more able students.
Overall I've had great feedback from the students, let me know what you think. Thanks.Reviews

Yet to use, next week, but this is a fantastic resource - much more imaginative and interesting than text book drawn circles. Props for the answers too! Thanks.
Two worksheets focusing on finding areas of circles and circular shapes. Problem-type questions are included as well. I find that these sheets are very useful as homework tasks for Y8 and older.
As an extra, I have included a NEW STYLE of PowerPoint, which allows questions and solutions to be easily selected for enlarged display onto a screen, one at a time. This makes it easier and quicker to go through the solutions in class.
