As with all NRICH tasks, this challenge gets students to practice their mathematical skills in an engaging way. It is a simple question which should lead to some good mathematical discussions in the classroom, and would make an excellent starter or plenary.
Surface area of prisms and cylinders in a work/career related context. Grade ranges from D - A* Have included PDF version in case word version doesn't play nice. Green - D Blue - C Red - A*

A recap I used with top set year 9. Pupils must first complete the area question and then move onto surface area questions where they find out how much cardboard it takes to make the package. They must then find out the cost of this. To be followed with a volume powerpoint which will be uploaded shortly.
