An excellent presentation with worksheets at the end. Pitched nicely for years 8 and 9 to access relatively easily. Builds up nicely without any need too much prior knowledge. Fabulous job!

Really good, simplified with examples & questions

    • Useful sheet to get students estimating the roots of integers other than perfect squares, through students knowledge of square numbers.Ask students to work in pairs or small groups. Also works well as a lead in to surds at ks4 *Update* the post it idea below works fantastically well, students can then rank the answers in terms of their closeness to the answer to further reinforce working with decimals.

    • Pupils learn how to estimate square roots of numbers using only a pencil, ruler and a pair of compasses. Originally discovered by Rene Descartes, it is based around Pythagoras' Theorem (a proof is included in the powerpoint). If you like this resource then please check out my other stuff on here! :)

    • Pupils have to match up the simple powers and roots to the correct calculated values. The sheet covers squares and square roots and a few cube/cube roots. I get pupils to colour in the pairs of answer and question.

Hi, thank you for this resource!
There is one misprint: = 5 or -5 is written twice. One of them has to be changed to =5.

    • This quiz is based on the 10 quick questions format. It is currently set up for fairly low ability practice with basic powers and roots, though the can be modified to own preference in this or other topics.

Challenge your class to beat their time or differentiate from the off by selecting appropriate timings. Again, these times can be modified to own preference.

I hope you will find this resource useful as is and easily adaptable to other topics.

I appreciate any and all feedback, so please comment and leave a rating if you download.
