Using the Harry Potter and Craig Barton's excellent ice cubes & fire cubes ideas ( http://www.tes.co.uk/article.aspx?storycode=6145836 ) this powerpoint talks through some examples of calculating with simple addition and subtraction of negative numbers and includes some questions for the children to try. The final page offers a suggested page from the MEP materials (www.intermep.org)

“Build an Army” is a fun, strategy game that can be used to consolidate understanding of key mathematical concepts. After students have played the game and described their strategy, there are opportunities for differentiation via various lines of inquiry and probing questions for the students to investigate. Full instructions are provided in the “General Rules” PowerPoint. To find more Build an Army activities, just visit: http://www.mrbartonmaths.com/buildanarmy.htm

A nice resource to build fluency with negative numbers. Thanks for sharing! :-)
Two lame jokes from yours truly whose punchlines are unveiled upon answering the negative numbers questions. Number 1 is simple adding and subtracting, number 2 is multiplying and dividing (including Bidmas).

Excellent, thank you
This is a task involving the four rules (add, subtract, multiply, divide) with negative numbers. Basically students fill in the blanks but there could be discussion about different answers etc.
