Percentage increase and decrease
Lesson presentations and activities
The activity is a consolidation of percentage increase and decrease. Each 'shop&' is located in a different section of the room. Pupils must visit each one and decide whether a percentage increase or decrease is needed on the items, and then work these out using the attached worksheet. The worksheet is designed to encourage pupils to work without calculators until the bank and bills section, which should be left until last (or used as an extension). I had calculators available at these stations, but some were confident enough by then to do without.

For practice of percentage increase and decrease. Pupils link amounts of money with percentage increase and decrease arrows to create a chain. The final arrow is blank for pupils to calculate the percentage change needed to return to the starting amount.

Useful resource: can be made more difficult by cutting out all of the individual squares or simpler by leaving each line attached together.

Practice questions, homeworks and assessments
This is a simple, first task on percentage increase and decrease. The questions are designed to engage the pupils using popular references. Answers are included. I used this to consolidate the use of DECIMAL MULTIPLIERS but it could be used with non-calculator methods as well - The numbers just won't work out too nicely.
I'd appreciate any feedback.Reviews

I think it's pretty good and helps a lot to get good practice on percentage
A Tarsia activity on increasing and decreasing by percentages. These type of activities can be used to consolidate understanding of a given topic, and foster positive group work and co-operative learning. For more ideas on how to use these types of activities (including twists!) and to download the latest version of the wonderful free software to open this resource (and create your own), just click on the web-link. If you have any comments, or spot any (non deliberate!) mistakes, please share them below. Many thanks to all the teachers who have helped me assemble these Tarsias over the years.

Lovely resource enough questions to check understanding but not too big to impact the photocopy budget!
