This is the washing machine game - pupils make washing machine using a paper net. They have to work in teams to design, produce and sell their washing machines. The aim is to make the most profit. Pupils start with 15 counters, purchase equipment and sell washing machines for counters. This game wasn’t designed by me but I have adapted and put together the powerpoint using AI technology to talk you through playing this game successfully. An excellent end of term activity. Following the popularity of previous years’ quizes, here is the Big Fat Quiz of the Year 2024. It is an end of term and end of year quiz for use with your classes or tutor groups with various subjects from the previous ten school months. Each round is a month from September 2023 up until and including June 2024, containing questions about events that were happening during that time. In addition, there are bonus rounds mixed in on popular films, television programmes and music from this period. A tiebreaker is also included if the teams cannot be separated at the end. An answer sheet has been included for teams to write their answers. Simply print this out, load up the slides and away you go! Pupils can mark each other’s answers too, meaning there is no planning and no marking required.

Bubble writing - cursive handwriting scaffold Like many primary school teachers I have tried a variety of handwriting schemes with varying degrees of success. Having thought through many common problems with handwriting I have developed a simple scaffold that places a bubble either side of the line to support letter formation. This simple scaffold provides a guide to consistently form cursive letters and ensure each letter is uniform in both height and width. Children are able to leave equal spaces between words and see clearly whether or not there is enough space at the end of each line for the next word they intend to write. There has been a huge impact within my class in a very short space of time and I hope you will see similar benefits within your own setting. Included is a PowerPoint presentation including words from the Year 3/4 spelling list that can be printed as a handwriting pack for children to work through. Blank slides enable you to add words to suit your needs and finally 2 different sized PDF scaffolds that children can use to write on (If photocopied the bubbles will disappear to leave the writing that has been completed.)

Students work through a highly visual PowerPoint answering questions in each round. The animations in the PowerPoint allow you to create interest and allow students time to answer questions. Examples of the Actor Anagram, Odd One Out, Name the Object, Rank and File, Name the Number and Celebrity Pseudonyms rounds are included to make instructions clear and accessible. Once the quiz has been completed, students mark the answers of the other teams. Marking the responses can create further discussion. Questions are appropriate to a secondary school and college aged student. The nine rounds of questions last for between 50 minutes and 1 hour (depending on how much time you give students to answer the questions). Round Two (Actor Anagrams), Round Three (Odd One Out), Round Four (Name the Summer Song) and Round Ten (Name the Number) could take longer for students to answer. You could give students up to five minutes per question. Alternatively, the quiz could be moved through reasonably briskly. Working through the answers takes between 15 and 20 minutes. You can slow the progress down or speed it up depending on your group or lessons. Whole quiz time: 1 hour to 1 hour 30 minutes.
