A selection of things that students should read before they’re 18 years old. They can of course, read them afterwards as well. Plenty to argue about wherever teachers gather together. Contains brief comments on each novel/poem/short story.

Number 9 in this remote learning series. Students check work from lesson 8 and answer some straightforward comp.questions.

Number 11 in this series of remote lessons aimed primarily at year 8 students who should be aiming for 30-40 minutes per lesson (ideally). Chunked and hopefully with enough variety to keep them engaged.

Students create a poem by blacking out words in a newspaper or old unwanted book. Ideal for cover lessons, one-offs or as part of a poetry unit.

Short lesson (increasingly students requesting shorter lessons but more frequently) exploring some symbolism in Chapt. 3. Ready to send out.

Lesson 4 in a series about Dystopian novel THE GIVER aimed at year 7s

Number 10 lesson ( ~ 30 minutes or so). Students familarise themselves with JIM CROW laws and create an aide -memoire.

Students complete a task or two on Chapter 4 ( around 40 minutes)

Students accelerate their reading in a move to finish novel over next 4 lessons. Questions about the text are now " thinking" and not factual retrieval.

Students follow up from previous lesson and begin to read chapter 6.

Students move on to look at how language is used to show a dystopian setting. A short 35 minutes worth X 2 = 70 MINUTES.
