Create and Perform with Percussion Instruments
Here is a series of fun activities for your music class while reinforcing the concepts of:
♦ beat,
♦ rhythm,
♦ performance and
♦ music notation.
This TEN page PDF file contains
1. TWO percussion charts to perform
2. TWO percussion chart templates for students to create their own percussion composition
3. A simple percussion chart to perform to Santana's song, "Smooth" (you need your own copy of the song)
4. An example of how to transcribe the notation on the percussion charts, into standard music notation.
5. The composition task asks students to compose a percussion chart for a song of their choice, organize a percussion band from class members, rehearse and perform their percussion composition to their chosen song.
This activity is best broken up into mini sessions’ over 4-5 days.

This file contains TEN ‘Crack the Music Code’ Puzzles
*** NORTH AMERICAN terminology and SPELLING are used in this product***
Students must identify the name of the music symbols in order to find the correct letters to answer the riddle!
PUZZLE 1 is specifically for a first day/week activity. Students break the music code to reveal the following message:
“Welcome to a brand new year of music and fun”
Each of the TEN Music Code puzzles has an ANSWER sheet
This file contains 12 music maze puzzles based on music signs and symbols.
• For each question box in the maze there are two answer boxes. If the correct answer is selected, the maze leads to the next question box, but if the incorrect answer is chosen, the maze leads to a dead end.
ANSWER sheets are included, making the mazes excellent for self-correcting worksheets/centres/homework etc.
Composer Research Activities
This is in the same format as the Composer Research Activities Set 1, but with different composers to research.
You will find this a great resource to have because it can be used in so many ways: .
♫ a class research task,
♫ set as an assignment,
♫ homework or
♫ left as a sub lesson when you are away.
These activities are excellent as a springboard into listening activities/lessons or a unit on composers or as a research study into a particular composer/era.
A TEACHER TIPS page is included!
Students are given 2-3 clues on the identity of a composer and they must then research who it is and write their name in the right hand column.
Once this section of the task is completed, students must then enter the composers name and other required information into the table provided, in chronological order.
An Answer key is provided for teachers!

This file contains SIX class activities to add to your World Music Unit
♫ ACTIVITIES 1 - 4
Students are given a list of 27 world music instruments.
Their task is to research the instruments in the first column to find their country of origin next to it, in the second column.
In the third column, students must categorize the instruments as either:
chordophone,
aerophone,
membranophone or
idiophone.
This activity is repeated but with only 22 instruments and a list of countries for the students to choose from.
♫ ACTIVITY 5 is a Wonder word puzzle containing 27 world instruments.
♫ ACTIVITY 6 World Instrument LISTENING Activity. Students listening to a clip of ten different world instruments and complete the information table.
♫ A table containing a LINK to a video clip for each of the 27 instruments to accompany Activity 6.
♫ ANSWER KEYS
This is an in-depth research and oral presentation task that would suit students in grades 5-8.
It requires students to choose a country and research the instruments and music of that country.
Included are:
♦ A list of TIPS and IDEAS for the teacher.
♦ THREE task pages with six criteria areas for students to address.
♦ A marking sheet for assessment purposes.
♦ A table of suggested countries for research and a column to enter student names so you can keep track of the country each student is researching.
♦ A three page list of internet sites where students might find information.
My grade 7 and 8 students really enjoy this task and they learn a great deal about the music of many different countries!
Key Signature Memory Game
Have fun while learning with Key Signature Memory.
Students must use their memory, concentration and knowledge of KEY SIGNATURES on the TREBLE staff, to match the key signature with its correct name!
