Y11 Head Start Activities for A Level Spanish

(1)
This is a one page compendium of 15 differentiated activities on line to keep students engaged in Spanish post their Spanish GCSE. They are geared towards independent learning, no input from the teacher. It is ideal as summer work in preparation for the A Level. The activities include on line courses, podcasts, articles, videos, etc on topics such as Spanish customs, curiosities about the language, translation traps, current affairs and even a short course on art. All for the price of a sandwich and saving you a lot of work! I KINDLY ASK THAT YOU RESPECT COPYRIGHT, I HAVE INVESTED A LOT OF TIME DOING THIS. A similar compendium with activities at higher level for A Level (Y12, or post A Level) can be found here: https://www.tes.com/teaching-resource/y13-moving-on-academic-activities-for-he-12299397

This is the 5th instalment of stimulus cards, questions and an exercise for improvisation in preparation for the AQA oral exam. **Please note there might be a problem seeing the preview. TES are aware of this and are trying to solve the issue.** The stimulus cards focus, amongst other subtopics, on the celebration of El Día E (Día del español); el "tapeo", regional stereotypes ("Ocho Apellidos Vascos");the waste of food in La Tomatina... This time I have put more emphasis on the students being critical and analytical, as they would have moved to the second part of the AS and they are more able to make comparisons, deductions, etc. The cards include the source so that they can not only be practiced in class but could be used for background reading prior to the preparation and practice. The general questions are self explanatory! Finally, I have included an exercise for improvisation where students have to say/write the opposite and can develop arguments as detailed as you ask them! I welcome any feedback on this resource or any of the series (they are all published in TES). Hopefully, they will make your life easier and your students will feel challenged, enjoy and learn with them. Hasta la próxima, Blanca

A set of 10 cards touching upon a variety of sub-topics including Toledo as a a city of three cultures, Lavapiés (a suburb in Madrid) as an example of a successful diverse quarter , the santería, threats to social coexistence, etc. Many cards have links to newspaper articles that students can read to prepare the card or for extension reading. This is followed by general questions that allow students to reflect on knowledge of the world around them as well as that of the Hispanic world. The game consists of a serious of statements that students have to place the context for and analyse. I have also published revision notes for this topic. Happy teaching and learning, Blanca

This is a second instalment of stimulus cards and general questions for the preparation of the oral AQA exam (the first instalment, for Los valores tradicionales y modernos, was also published via TES ). This 15 page booklet includes a very brief description of the exam and the mark scheme for the first part of the exam. It has 8 stimulus cards with question types similar to those in the exam, general questions on the three subtopics and two pages of stretch and challenge statements that can be used for oral or written responses. I have not included a list of questions starters, which I included in the booklet on Los valores tradicionales y modernos, as I would not want you to buy the same content again. I did however think it necessary to include a brief description of the exam structure and mark scheme so that your students have a quick reference guide. I hope you like the work and it makes your teaching easier. I welcome any feedback at this site or privately at: bgp@stbrn.ac.uk. Many thanks for your support.

This is a new set of cards for the topic of La inmigración, for the new AQA (slightly different to the old one in content!). The cards touch upon long lasting issues such as "La fuga de cerebros" as well as more recent aspects, such as Trump's proposals to deal with illegal inmigration in the USA. The questions are followed by general questions and a game to improve improvisation and fluency (with instructions). You can also purchase the revision notes in my shop. They will be useful to prepare the cards. If you like this series, please visit my shop as I have published sets of cards, questions, games AND REVISION notes for each of the AL1 units too. PLEASE leave a review, your feedback is very important to me. Happy teaching and learning, Blanca

This compilation of cards includes sub-themes such as the exile of children during the Civil War, bringing down Franco's statues, the economic boom during Franco times, Letizia as a plebeian, etc., in one word, as much variety as possible, all within range! The general questions are followed by a selection of photographs to be used as preparation for presentations, or as a starting point for the IRP. I feel at this point of the course, students should be able to work from visual stimuli on their own! I have also published a set of revision notes to accompany the cards (if you deem it necessary). Please leave a comment if you purchase this resource. Your feedback is very helpful to me. Happy teaching and learning! Blanca

IRP: Guide and template

IRP: Guide and template

Student guide for the IRP, as well as template for students to complete their work. The guide summarises the exam and how to prepare for it step by step. I t contains a list of sample IRP titles, introduction and note taking. … AND it has lists of expressions, connectives, etc that ensure students use the right language to score points. At the end of the guide there is also a list of generic questions to practice, which my students have used to no end! The template allows students to organise their note taking and analysis, so that the teacher can check progress and guide them. It also has cues on what to say in the introduction, based on past performances that scored top grades. My students do their work in a folder that they share with me and with other students. Their work is always safe and available. I bet you won’t be disappointed with what is for sale here. If you are, let me know!

Scheme of Work (AQA) - A Level Spanish. Teacher and Student versions

If you are new to teaching and /or you want to update your scheme of work to the latest teaching research theories and the new OFSTED framework, this is what you need! Editable documents included This is a 2 year scheme of work for the A Level Spanish AQA course following the upcoming new OFSTED Inspection framework and based on the latest Theory of Knowledge (latest scientific research on learning). It sounds scary but it isn’t! The curriculum overview summarizes the concepts that students have to grasp, the grammar that accompanies it, as well as the generic skills and activities that they acquire/improve/do in class. Each of the topics also has a “refining”(knowledge) section, which is basically a recall of things learnt previously and that you should include in your teaching. Finally, there is a section explaining why the topic is being taught/learnt. The new OFSTED framework stipulates that students are assessed on knowledge and also skills, hence a box explaining the common skills you can use to do so. I have also created a friendly version for the students, so that they can follow the programme of studies with you. There is a complete breakdown of all the grades per skill (based on June 2019 exam boundaries), advice on independent learning, boxes to write results and targets for mock assessments, etc. The final page details the qualities of an excellent linguist (they need to know what to aim for, I suppose:!)… Kindly respect copyright. This has been hours of extra work, and** I mean to make it accessible for all by pricing it low.** I’m not a banker but I would like some reward for my work and it helps to pay the bills! Any comments or questions welcome (I’m in the Facebook A Level Group). As always, enjoy! Blanca
