Mathematics of Words V - Speed Formulae

This level 5+ resource can be delivered in maths or science and should take two to three hours to deliver. Ideally the speed section should be combined with some simple practical activity around falling objects (terminal speed) or cars down a slope. The worksheet is also useful for extension. There is an extension section at the end for L6 students to construct formula. Follow me on twitter for updates on latest resources: https://twitter.com/boostprogress

A couple of lessons looking at finding fractions of integers (whole numbers) including both multiplication and division. Based a little around 10 ticks but some good activities for building progress and a range of worded problems to support literacy. The basis for a solid L5+ lesson and as always leave feedback and follow @boostprogress.

Blooms Questioning Heirarchy

This heirarchy helps you to scaffold the cognitive demand of both closed and open questions. Quite simply how demanding are the different questions we ask during a lesson and in what order should be present questions. This is a good resource for exemplar and golden lesson planning.

Science of Mass, Weight and Pressure (L4+)

Sharing a couple of lesson resources on these topics, using earth and moon comparisons and then moving onto pressure calculations, with a good maths exercise thrown in for good measure. Finally a nice literacy task describing how people survive high and low pressure environments. As always the basic resource for lesson content and practical approaches. Please leave comments and feedback and follow @boostprogress and @CE4ET.

Science of Solids, Liquids and Gases I - An Egg

I came up with this lesson to teach solids, liquids and gases in a contextual way by using a chicken's egg as a practical focus. Give the pupils an egg and find the solids, liquids and gases, where and why are they present and link to some high brow science with the explanations and links to particle theory. This lesson covers L4 to L6, and can be changed to go beyond. Basic lesson attached as usual and please suggest improvements or additions. Follow me on twitter @boostprogress

Graphology of line graphs - L5+

A fun approach to collecting data using simple paper helicopters and cutting propellors to different lengths. Students are introduced to accurate measurement and there are options for pooling class results and investigating reliability. Then progress to graphing data using scatter graphs and possibly constructing a coversion graph relating the two variables. Ideal for the L5+ student and the disengaged mathematician or scientist! As always the activities are an outline for you to enrich. Please leave comments and feedback to further improve this resource.

A fun starter to proportions using M&M sweets. Supply students with bags of 20 MéMs with 10 of one colour, 5 of another colour, 4 of another colour and 1 of a final colour. There is a worksheet to support this and a couple of activities with cubes and cards. Great fun so give it a go. Photos soon to follow and support these lessons. Please feedback comments and follow @boostprogress.
