Print out the mat on a colour of your choice (I chose brown in my example photo), laminate and then add a split pin and paper clip as the spinner. Finally, write the phonics you wish to focus on in whiteboard pen or chalk pen. Children sound out and read the word, before making it on their mat! This could be adapted for EYFS by writing single letters and children create their own model corresponding with the initial letter chosen e.g. s for snake etc.
