This is a great brain teaser to get you kids warmed up and ready to learn. It is suitable for all ages and can be made harder but shortening the time that is given to study the images. Mythical Creatures Creative Writing

(0)
This pack of writing resources forms the perfect lesson(s) for imaginative or creative writing. The children can spend time planning out their very own mythical creature after being inspired by those created by J.K Rowling. With their thorough plan the children can then bring to life a detailed and impressive description of their creature, giving them a chance to work on great use of VCOP. The child written examples will also really help the less able pupils in the class to get started. This writing lesson works great along side any magical topic (e.g. Harry Potter, Castles or even Halloween).

Swish - Dividing decimals by 10,100,1000

This pack includes 3 versions of this game, but the way they are played are the same. I love using this as a quick fire revision game - it takes about 10 minutes and your students will answer about 26 questions! The best bit is you can also mix and match the cards from the separate packs. Getting ready: Place a SWISH Question Card on each desk and give each child a grid worksheet. How to play: Children will move from desk to desk around the classroom. At each desk, students will read the question card and write the answer on the grid worksheet. Each card is labelled with a letter. The children make sure to put the answer to the question in the grid square with the same letter in it. When the teacher says “SWISH,” they move to the next desk. Students visit each desk in the classroom and answer all of the question cards. Example: A child is at card A. She reads the SWISH question card that says “divide by 10 … 345.6 ” She writes “34.56” on her grid worksheet in the ‘A’ box. When the teacher says “SWISH,” she moves to desk B (the SWISH cards do not have to be on the desks in alphabetical order, but it may be easier for the children to keep track if they are). At the end of the game, collect all of the question cards and go over the answers with the class.
