This is a fully resourced lesson that gives students an insight into the skills required to understand a text. The lesson includes three differentiated worksheets so that the teacher can meet the needs of individual students.

This is a fully differentiated 22-slide lesson looking at the poem Poppies from the AQA Power and Conflict anthology. The lesson looks at drawing together an understanding of how conflict is presented in the cluster as a whole. In addition, it helps students to gain a good understanding of Poppies and starts to get them to compare this to another poem and producing an exam-style response. This PowerPoint includes a range of fun and engaging icebreakers to help learners get to know each other and break through the tension of coming back to school. This recourse has opportunities for both individual and team games and also helps to develop key English skills such as making inferences and speaking and listening.
