This is a fully differentiated lesson designed to improve students understanding of language and structure and how to develop a good piece of creative writing.
This is a fully differentiated lesson looking at a key scene on Macbeth. The lesson covers many aspects of context that will affect the interpretation of Lady Macbeth’s soliloquy. The lesson goes on to help students annotate and understand the scene as well as opportunities for AFL and an exam-style question.
This is a full differentiated lesson looking at the theme of intelligence and how children are treated it regards to this. The lesson has many opportunities for AFL and has both a reading and writing focus. All of my lessons are tried and tested with my own learners.

This is a fully differentiated, fifteen-page booklet for functional skills level one and two. This booklet has worked well on an individual basis and has also been successful in whole class teaching. The booklet covers both the reading and writing elements of the functional skills course and builds on some of the most important skills to help learners stretch and challenge themselves to achieve. The booklet also comes with an answer booklet in order to enable students to take control of their own learning and to check their understanding.

This is a free resource taken from my lesson, TV and Media which can be found on my shop under Functional Skills New Reform: 4. The resource has two activities to help students get a better understanding of adjectives and adverbs and how to use these in their own writing. The final task asks them to make notes on a review which will help them when completing exam-style tasks for level 1 and level 2 functional skills.

The lesson goes into detail about the context of the poem and Kamikaze pilots. The lesson also works to help students to grasp some of the key aspects of the poem, and to make analytical comments on language, structure and form.

The lesson looks at the conflict between cyclists and motorist and the issues people are facing. This is an engaging lesson that will help improve and assess learners reading and writing ability.

The lesson gives learners a clear insight into the themes and ideas expressed in the poem as well as looking at the contextual information that effects the poem. The lesson looks at drawing together an understanding of how conflict is presented in the cluster as a whole. The lesson follows on from my previous lesson (functional skills: Gaming) and helps learners to adapt and edit their own writing. The lesson works well to help learners stretch their writing skills and get them prepared for studying level 2 and GCSE English. In addition, there is also an opportunity for students to complete a mock reading exam.

This is a fully differentiated two-three-hour lesson looking at the key questions/skills of the paper one exam: Explorations in Creative Reading and Writing. Due to the restrictions put in place by Covid, the lesson can be taught without the need for additional printing or resources, making it ideal for either face-to-face or on-line teaching.
The lesson looks at the novel, The Boy In Stripped Pyjamas which is a fantastic text to help introduce learners to the exam paper.
The lesson has a strong focus on both language analysis (question two) and creative writing (question five) which include both learner and teacher examples.
