This is a fully differentiated lesson looking at The Class Game by Marey Casey. The lesson looks at understanding how language, structure and form has been used to present the theme of conflict. The lesson has a model response and helps learners to plan a response to an exam-style question. The lesson also looks at drawing comparisons to the other poems in the anthology. All of my lessons have been tried and tested with my own groups and has been designed to require no additional printing. The lesson provides students with an introduction to the writer Allen Edger Poe and one of his most important pieces of writing, A Tell-Tale-Heart. The lesson begins with a fact-finding task, then progress to looking at the text and the Gothic conventions that are presented. There are tasks for the class to identify quotations linked to key images. The class will then move on to attempt an exam-style question, there is also a written example to help them to construct a well-written response.
