One of my favourites, a spin on a classic chemistry lesson, theres a brilliant analogy (thanks whoever came up with that) a unique appllication of the 1,2,3 game of which most kids will have played at least once and lots of visuals plus a good qualitative practical that could easily be adjusted to be investigatve for higher groups.. Amazing fun with this lesson, get yourself a stinky spray, the worse the better, explore diffusion and model it as explicitly as possible, then give students the challenge to build a better stink bomb. POP! students all over the country never forget the hydrogen pop test, brilliantly accessable, student swill compete to produce the biggest number of pops over a 5 minute period, hands up polling will give a winner and can be rewarded. Things are always easier when its directly relatable and applicable, finding ways to improve the water quality of other school children around the world will hit a strong cord. Students will spend time trying to filter clean water through different methods that they create and then add them all to a big pot at the front. The culmination of this series, students are given free reign to seperate out iron filings, salt, sand and pebbles, to increase the challenge you can add wood chippings and for super high ability vegetable oil.
