These 15 lessons will teach Year 4 children all about Aesop’s Fables. Throughout the unit they will study various fables including The Tortoise and The Hare, The Fox and The Grapes, The Town and The Country Mouse and many more.
Grammar covered throughout this unit includes:
Using and punctuating direct speech.
Extending their range of sentences with more than one clause.
Using conjunctions to express time or cause.
To end the unit, children will have the opportunity to discuss, plan and write their own fables in depth whilst focusing on the correct structure, relevant morals, spelling accuracy and correct punctuation marks with regards to written dialogue.

Using these differentiated worksheets, pupils will have the opportunity to independently investigate the rules required for adding suffixes. Lower ability students will focus on the ‘silent e’ rule whilst Middle and Higher ability students will investigate adding suffixes that begin with a vowel. Included in this pack is also an MAT investigation sheet where students can be left to work entirely independently as they record all of the rules that they successfully research.
