My classroom community KS1 PSHE lesson. A one-hour long, very detailed, fully resourced PSHE lesson suitable for KS1. This lesson has been created for Year 1, however, the activities are also suitable for students in Year 2, and could easily be adapted for use with older students.

Renewable energy, fossil fuels, and climate change lesson.
A detailed, differentiated and editable 1 hour lesson all about the UK’s energy needs and the government’s plans to phase out the use of carbon-based fuels. In this lesson, the students will learn about the nation’s energy consumption of electricity, natural gas, and solid fuels.
We will investigate the pros and cons of different energy sources including renewables and fossil fuels. We will reflect on the reasons why we are moving away from carbon-based fuels and discuss how easy it will be for the UK to achieve their carbon-neutral target.
The lesson is ideally suited to students in UKS2 or younger students in KS3. The resources are fully editable, and therefore easy to amend should you wish to use the resources with other year groups.

Environment and Climate Change KS1

Caring for living things
In this lesson, the children will learn about the responsibilities associated with caring for living things. We will talk about ‘needs’ and reflect on the various things animals and plants must have if they are to survive. The students will read Don’t let them disappear by Chelsea Clinton, before completing a conservation poster activity linked to the text.

In this lesson, the children will learn about recycling. We will discuss the reasons why recycling is so important as well as taking a closer look at the different types of materials that can and can’t be recycled. The students will read Why do we recycle? by Jen Green, before completing an activity linked to the text. The lesson includes a case study starter, a story with accompanying questions, a recycling sorting task and a debate-style plenary.
Plastic and pollution
In this lesson, the children will learn about the vast quantity of plastic that is finding its way into rivers and oceans. We will discuss the impact of plastics on wildlife and the consequences of microplastics entering the food chain . In this lesson, the children will learn about climate change and the reasons why our world is getting warmer. Getting hurt KS1 PSHE lesson.
A one-hour long, very detailed, fully resourced PSHE lesson suitable for KS1. This lesson has been created for Year 1, however, the activities are also suitable for use in Year 2.
In this lesson, the children will learn about getting physically or emotionally hurt, and how we can get help. We will listen to ‘Ouch Moments: When Words are Used in Hurtful Ways’ by Michael Genhart and Viviana Garofoli, before completing a set of activities linked to the text.
The students will identify examples of how a person’s body or feelings can be hurt, before reflecting on a set of case studies.
The lesson includes a case study starter, a story with accompanying questions, a short recall activity relating to the story, a creative task that includes a set of case studies and a plenary task.
Created to fit the new DfE and PSHE Association statutory 2020 /21 guidelines, the lesson includes a detailed PowerPoint, all editable with accompanying tasks and worksheets.
The lesson has been left editable and is filled with engaging, well differentiated and fun activities. It is designed to be ‘no prep’, so you can just pick it up and use it, although it is still adaptable should you wish to.

EYFS - PSHE RSE Resources
