Drop Down Day / Off Timetable Day Pack - A set of 6 lessons to cover a Drop Down Day (6 hours) all about careers and enterprise. The Drop Down Day was put together for Year 10 originally, but all the resources are editable and well-differentiated so it could be used with any year group KS4 / KS3 with a tweak or so. The overall theme for the series of KS4 Drop Down Days was ‘Independent Living’, so this is just one in a series of six which ran throughout the year. This particular day was run just before the Year 10s went off for work experience, as we decided that this would be a great way to prepare them and convey the importance of focusing on their possible future employment opportunities. As 25% of Britains now class themselves as self-employed, two out of the six sessions also have a large focus on entrepreneurship and enterprise skills. A Diversity Drop Down Day Pack - A set of 6 lessons to cover a Citizenship / PSHE Drop Down Day (6 hours) which could be use with either KS3 or KS4 as an off time-table day for the end of term. All the resources are editable and well-differentiated so it could be used with any year group KS4 / KS3, with the option to tweak if you want to. The Drop Down Day celebrates diversity but also investigates opposition and bigotry, as well as exploring how to tackle this, head on. Each lesson lasts an hour and they can be used in any order: What can we learn from religion about tolerance in a diverse society like the UK? What is multiculturalism - why is our society so diverse, why do some people oppose diversity? What benefits does a diverse society bring? What is homophobia? Why does this still exist? An examination into how some people use fake news to scare others about the consequences of embracing diversity. Each workbook contains 20-24 pages of information and activities and has been created for the new PSHE / RSE and Health 2020 Statutory Guidance. Each contains all of the information needed to learn about the topic in the first few pages, then the rest of the booklet is full of activities to complete. The Drop Down Day was put together for Year 10 originally, but all the resources are editable and well-differentiated so it could be used with any year group KS4 / KS3 with a tweak or so. The day works especially well if you can have a key speaker from the Finance Industry (the school’s finance director will do) to kick off proceedings; just someone to emphasise how important financial literacy is and how it can lead to lucrative careers. Intertwined with the money and independent living skills gained by students throughout the day are reminders of their responsibilities as consumers to spend ethically. There is much focus on young people’s rights and responsibilities throughout the lessons as this was planned to ensure thorough coverage of Citizenship and SMSC too.
