My body belongs to me KS1 PSHE lesson. A one-hour long, very detailed, fully resourced PSHE lesson suitable for KS1. This lesson has been created for Year 1, however, the activities are also suitable for students in Year 2, and could easily be adapted for use with older students. In this lesson, the children will learn about different kinds of touch, and the way they make us feel. We will discuss wanted and unwanted touches including kisses, cuddles, and hand-holding, as well as unkind or aggressive forms of physical contact. The students will read Your Body Belongs to You by Cornelia Spelman, before completing a set of activities linked to the text. The students will learn the correct way to respond to unwanted touches, with a particular focus on the ‘swimwear’ unsafe touch safety rule. The lesson includes a case study starter, a story with accompanying questions, a set of case studies, and a ‘wanted poster’ plenary task. Over 90% of employers admit to screening potential candidates’ social media, so in this lesson students will examine exactly why employers do this, and what they’re looking for. Students will then assess case studies of seven teenagers with questionable or positive social media profiles, giving advice on how they can improve and what should not be posted or should remain private. They will then assess tweets from celebrities and politicians that either made them lose their jobs, or made them lose face in the public eye, investigating why and what we can learn from these.
