**Fairtrade Fortnight 2024 ** A 1-hour, all new global Citizenship lesson suitable for KS2. In this lesson, the students will learn how the Fairtrade Foundation helps to prevent the exploitation and unfair treatment of farmworkers in developing countries. We will discuss the role of the Fairtrade price guarantee in helping farmworkers to avoid poverty, and we will discuss the positive impact of the Fairtrade Premium on communities in developing countries. The students will investigate the meaning of a ‘fair price’ when we look at the income distribution of a bar of chocolate sold in a developed country, such as the UK. This was created as part of this two hour lesson for Citizenship GCSE 9-1 with a focus on: 3.4.2 What are the powers of local and devolved government and how can citizens participate? It also covers how to avoid inappropriate sources of help (TikTok / Instagram health influencers / faith healers / miracle pill-pushers and so-called health gurus). Students will explore case studies where people have taken bad advice from illegitimate sources and had poor outcomes as well as investigate why self-diagnosis is such a problem online.
