A detailed and well differentiated, editable history or Citizenship lesson with all about terrorism and why people become terrorists. Students will investigate why people become involved in terrorism before examining case studies of historical figures who could be interpreted as either freedom fighters or terrorists. This hour long lesson (with PowerPoint, clips and worksheets) was created for Year 9 (but could be used with a different KS3 group) and includes exam style practice plenary questions for students to reflect upon their learning and demonstrate their explanation, description and analysis skills. This could also be useful as a KS3 Citizenship lesson. This lesson is part of our Terrorism topic which includes types of terrorism, Suffragettes, Israel and Palestine, the IRA and Al Qaeda. A homework booklet which provides three detailed case studies where human activity has affected the environment substantially - the Arctic, the Great Barrier Reef and the Amazon Rainforest. The case studies provide information to be read before students then engage in three sets of differentiated challenge questions and activities. Created initially for Year 8 but left editable, this could be set as homework over three weeks or as one more substantial homework piece. The Ultimate History Quiz! For end of year, or any time, no fuss, historical fun. This quiz is a whirlwind tour through time, focusing mainly on time periods studied in KS3 and GCSE in British Secondary Schools (with a little off-curricular extra thrown in!) This quiz will definitely raise a few smiles and giggles and is interactive, editable and best suited to secondary students (although could be used with upper KS2). The rounds include: Kings, Queens and Political Leaders, Who said that quote? Lucky Dip round Ancient and Medieval trivia Mix up! (which two historical figures have their images combined?) Unusual artifacts and historical places All answers are included, as is a score sheet, and there a video clip questions, picture questions as well as many other styles - all are multiple choice The quiz lasts up to 45 mins including clip tasks and can either be played having the answers revealed as you go along, or the board can be paused and the answers read out at the end (you can play either in teams or individually). ADDITIONAL FREE CONTENT: A fun and Christmassy lesson for students in the last week of term. Could be used as a reward lesson the last time you see your class before Christmas. A fun and creative history project lesson for students in the last week of term. Could be used for activities week in Humanities or just as a reward lesson the last time you see your class for the summer. Very easy to set up - you will just need a few balloons, string, sellotape, felt tips and a bag of old clothes. The students work in small groups to research and recreate a famous historical figure (info sheets and clip tasks included - all instructions on Powerpoint). The lesson can last as long as you want it to, and I gave prizes of sweets at the end for the best one - but that’s optional! My students really enjoyed it and we took pictures at the end for the school website. Hopefully yours will love it too. I’m going to be adding lots more free History lessons over the coming months.
