KS4 lesson where students investigate key endothermic and exothermic reactions from the AQA Combined Science Triolgy syllabus.
A practical heavy lesson where students go through:
Reactions of metals with acids
Reactions of carbonates
Thermal decomposition
Ammonium nitrate and water
Combustion reactions
A very enjoyable lesson which fully engages students and gets them thinking.
KS4 lesson taking students through the applications and uses of equations to calculate Ke, GPE, and Ee.
Each equation is introduced in a way where students begin to think about the equations, and how different factors affect the amount of energy in different stores, before students begin to consider the use of equations in an exam context.
Differentiated questions demanding students convert units and consider the form of their answers. What’s more, the final questions require students to interchange values between stores of GPE, Ke, and Ee.
A series of approximately three lessons where students are taken through:
The structure of simple covalent molecules
The properties of simple covalent molecules
The structure of giant covalent molecules
The properties of giant covalent molecules
Structures of polymers
Representing the structures of polymers
Forming polymers
There is a theme throughout this series of lessons where students use molymods to make abstract concepts far more concrete. This aids understanding and promotes engagement throughout a topic which can be both conceptually challenging, and quite dry to teach to students.
An introduction to Endothermic and Exothermic reactions aimed at KS4, taking students through a practical activity, before students attempt to tackle energy profiles.
Several lessons to take students through the structure of the digestive system, enzyme functioning, and how environmental conditions can affect the rate of enzyme action.
These lessons are fully resourced, and will take students through all of the key ideas behind the digestion unit of B3, including a comprehensive review and follow up of the enzymes required practical.
An enjoyable set of lessons, with high impact.
Two lessons surrounding mitosis.
Students are taken through the ideas and importance of mitosis, before considering the mechanism of mitosis. A practical lesson is then included with instructions on how to visualize mitosis in allium roots.
Instructions provided by the Nuffield foundation.
KS4 Microscopes overview lasting 2 to 3 lessons.
This presentation takes students through the parts of a light microscope, to using light microscopes, including the AQA required practical.
Magnification equations are demonstrated, and there is an independent research activity to investigate the differences between light microscopes, compared with electron microscopes.
A full lesson taking students through the structure of alkanes, the process of fractional distillation, and the uses of different fractions. All key ideas from the AQA GCSE syllabus are included, with a focus on flammability and viscosity with regard to uses of fractions.
This lesson could be used to cover several learning episodes, and builds nicely on key concepts. It has proven very powerful in building key ideas in what can be a tricky process for students to understand.
AQA Activate Unit 3 resources for the structure of the digestive system, enzyme action, factors affecting enzyme action, and food tests.
These lessons are fully resourced, and guide students through the topic from start to finish. Students are taken through the required practicals using extensive follow up, and each lesson is complimented by regular and thorough reflection points.
A three hour lesson taking students through specialized cells, differentiation, stem cells, and the uses of stem cells.
The lesson contains individual activities, summaries of content, as well as instructions for plant cutting practicals, and a research task structured for the benefits and disadvantages of stem cells.
This lesson can easily be broken down over several lessons with contrasting activities to promote engagement.
A Bundle of lessons to cover the AQA Combined science ECHG topic.
A practical heavy focus on a topic which students find engaging and enjoyable. Can be condensed down to around 4 lessons to cover rapidly and effectively.
A series of fully resourced lessons available to assist students in navigating the AQA Combined Science Trilogy topic of Bonding.
These resources are both challenging and engaging; drawing upon both practical based activities, as well as featuring conceptual conundrums to promote higher order thinking withing students.
Please do get in contact for any more information - I have taught from these resources for two years now and students have greatly enjoyed learning about bonding!
This is an excellent resource for ensuring pupil progress, and a deeper understanding of chemical bonds.
A series of 10 lessons to cover the entire AQA trilogy GCSE specification for Triple science, but can easily be used for combined science students. This scheme takes students from atoms, elements and compounds, through mixtures, to then considering the structure of atoms. After this point, students are introduced to the ideas of ions and the structure of the periodic table with reference to subatomic particles. Finally, students then combine all of these ideas to evaluate the reactivity of elements in groups 1, 7 and 0.
There are several opportunities for practical skills to be developed, including:
Distillation demonstrations
Chromatography
Group 1 demos
Group 7 displacement reactions
Formation of ionic compounds to demonstrate predicted electron transfer, e.g. combustion of magnesium.
A fun scheme, which has so far proved to promote excellent progress.
A full powerpoint is provided, as well as individual lesson powerpoints. All lessons come with powerpoints. Some have activities omitted - how to find these free activities from TES included in notes.
Please contact for any queries.
SOW to compliment AQA KS3 Matter scheme.
This full series of lessons is fully equip to tackle the scheme in a logical and challenging fashion. Each lesson is presented from a colourful differentiated powerpoint, with activities and thought provoking questions for students. Practicals are regularly included, as well as interactive and independent activities, and each lesson ends with an opportunity for reflection.
Students greatly enjoyed covering this unit, and other schools would benefit greatly from these resources.
A full scheme of lessons to take students through the AQA Organic chemistry unit for paper 2. Packed with animations, videos, practical opportunities and engaging activities.
All activities are on the powerpoints, printing is kept to a minimal to save time and money, and students have shown to greatly enjoy this topic!
A bundle of several lessons covering the AQA Chemistry Triple Science Trilogy SOW.
Fun and engaging lessons, with several practical and demonstration opportunities. A mixture of student and teacher led lessons to add variety, all of which promote engagement and will encourage students to become excited in the early stages of their chemistry GCSE.
Each lesson has built in reflection points, and notes to explain where other resources can be obtained for free when necessary.
