SOW to compliment AQA KS3 Matter scheme. This full series of lessons is fully equip to tackle the scheme in a logical and challenging fashion. Each lesson is presented from a colourful differentiated powerpoint, with activities and thought provoking questions for students. Practicals are regularly included, as well as interactive and independent activities, and each lesson ends with an opportunity for reflection. Students greatly enjoyed covering this unit, and other schools would benefit greatly from these resources.

A lesson to compliment the teaching of surface area to volume ratio, and its effect on the rate of diffusion. This lesson takes has a maths focus of encouraging students to calculate surface area to volume ratio, and then comparing these values to the time taken for HCl to diffuse into cubes of agar gel which are soaked in phenolphthalein. Differentiated and engaging for an otherwise dry topic.

Magnification equations are demonstrated, and there is an independent research activity to investigate the differences between light microscopes, compared with electron microscopes.

This lesson can easily be broken down over several lessons with contrasting activities to promote engagement.

This lesson will most likely last around 40 minutes, but can easily be accompanied by extra exam questions. This lesson has a high student focus, with many different opportunities for reflection.
