Creative writing plot and structure lesson that explores Dickens’ The Signal-Man and is part a unit of work on short stories whilst looking at creative writing. As we study A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens, we analyse the beginning of Stave 3 and look at how The Ghost of Christmas Present is introduced to us and how the use of language affects the readers’ interpretations of the character. Moreover, we look at the use of imagery in the description of the Christmas activity taking place throughout the city as the Ghost and Scrooge travel through the streets. We look at three key quotes from Eric Birling, one of the most important characters from An Inspector Calls by JB Priestley, and look at how and why he changes throughout the three acts of the play.
