We look at travel writing and reviews and create our own travel reviews using a detailed model and planning sheets. Students look at all the different purposes of a travel review and how a writer is able to combine and order them. Students create their own travel reviews using the models and scaffolds provided. Fully differentiated throughout.
A very detailed lesson on Carol Ann Duffy’s Medusa that supports students to analyse and interpret the poem’s key themes. Includes differentiated activities, a scaffold for creating analytical paragraphs and more. An excellent resource for both KS3 and KS4 students and useful for unseen poetry activities.
As students analyze Shakespeare tragedy, they work in groups to create their own Shakespearean tragedy - using genre conventions including themes, plot, setting, titles, types of character and more .Students are provided with detailed examples including a whole example play to help them, and detailed planning sheets so they can craft their tragedies together in groups. Students then prepare and perform a scene from their own play, judging its success on class success criteria. A really engaging lesson for students of all ages. Fully differentiated throughout.

Gothic openings to texts can be tricky, but this lesson looks at narrative hooks and structure, using examples from both Gothic films and narratives in order to introduce different types of beginnings to students. We analyse a number of film clips to look at how they hook us into a story before studying the opening sentences to Gothic texts like Northanger Abbey, Wuthering Heights and more. A brilliant lesson for both KS3 and KS4 students analysing Gothic texts and characters.

Gothic endings to narratives can be quite tricky, but this lesson support students in analysing Gothic fiction extracts for types of ending or closers before students create their own endings appropriate for Gothic stories and peer assess their work based around the use of types of endings studied during the lesson. Using an extract from The Yellow Wallpaper, we analyse how a write presents a narrator and character in a Gothic narrative. This lesson support students in pulling apart key quotes (Q2), identifying key information (Q1) and developing detailed analytical paragraphs on language (Q2). Richard III Shakespeare Act 1 Scene 1 lesson.
