A full 2-3 lessons (24 slides) addressing GCSE Language paper 1. Questions are tailored to suit the EDUQAS specification however could be easily adapted to suit any other. Includes a range of tasks to address each question individually including the creative writing task on section B. Modelled examples and mark scheme guidance given to scaffold carefully.
2/3 lessons (30+ slides) addressing all elements of the GCSE, focusing on the EDUQAS specification with extracts to analyse with questions ready to use and suited to mark scheme, followed by creative writing practise using image, video and title stimulus to suit any learner. Could be used from Year 9 upwards as GCSE preparation. Could also be adapted to suit any exam board.
Full unit addressing all elements of the Language and Gender topic to suit any exam specification. Mark scheme used within is OCR however, has been previously altered slightly to suit AQA and EDUQAS A level specifications. Ready to be taught with Year 13 as revision preparation and adapted to develop in to full lessons.
A Christmas themed lesson that could suit either KS3-4. Pupils will be asked to focus on a new brand of advent calendar, like the many toy alternatives that are out there now compared with the traditional chocolate one. Pupils could work in groups or pairs but will watch adverts to consider slogans, logos, products etc from a range of famous brands. They will then spend time working on adverts, slogans, product name and look.
Pupils will move on to analysing persuasive speeches- watching good and bad examples before creating their own. There is a modelled example that they will analyse before creating (this could be tailored to trasactional writing for GCSE if required).
Pupils will then have time to present all of their information to vote for winners at the end.
Two full hour lessons based on a range of skills when writing creatively; using the iconic film ‘The Impossible’ as a stimulus. Range of engaging activities with resources that are fully differentiated to suit all learners.
Engaging activity best used as a starter or plenary. Enough resources for a class of 30 where they play dominoes as a recap of all descriptive devices. Works well with KS3 or KS4.
A lesson (could be extended) focusing on the GCSE fiction section b where pupils are asked to write from an image. The lesson focuses on memories and the impact of these addressing the more complex technique of a flashback. Range of interactive group activities using a range of images as stimulus. Modelled examples also included.
Two full lessons focusing on character and their backstory. Using the stimulus of the Simon Armitage poem ‘Out of the Blue’ and the famous icon of the ‘falling man’ from 9/11, pupils are asked to develop character profiles and descriptions from a range of perspectives.
A full hour lesson addressing show don’t tell; developing descriptions to create imagery and make writing more interesting and engaging. Suitable for KS3 or KS4.
A full hour lesson as part of a creative writing scheme, focusing on atmosphere, word choice and developing an effective mood within a piece of writing.
6 ‘Mastery’ tests using extracts and focusing on pupils’ analysis of language and character development to develop perceptive, analytical skills. Differentiated for Most Able and Lower Ability pupils.
Example essay exploring Shakespeare’s presentation of Juliet’s decisions; analysing language, structure, plot development and writer’s methods considering the contextual setting of the play and the Elizabethan era.
GCSE Poetry Anthology and Unseen poetry assessment booklet where pupils can record scores on the front and write their answers inside; typical example of their GCSE exam booklet. Can be used as a mid term assessment or revision document for pupils. Poems used are from the AQA anthology however could be used to suit any exam board poetry comparison question.
Over 150 slides detailing over 20 lessons based on the topic of Song lyrics. A friendly way to begin addressing poetry at KS3 or even the start of KS4. Engaging activities with differentiated resources and tasks, assessments and a full SOW to support teaching and lesson ppts provided.
12 non fiction resources matched into categories, ready to compare for the 19th/21st century element of the GCSE exam. Would be suitable for any exam board as questions could easily be adapted to suit. All resources could be accessible to any age with glossaries provided. Each extract is a page long so typical of exam source material.
