I have been teaching the Level 3 Applied Science and Forensic curriculum for more than a decade. Many forensic resources out there are innovative yet pitch to younger audiences and don't meet the detail that level 3 and higher students need - I try to integrate an analytical and vocational approach to my resources.

Forensic Toxicology_Analytical Chemistry

(0)
A detailed presentation on forensic toxicology using well known examples from the news/media. Focus is on the value of samples and analytical chemical techniques involved such as immunoassay and GCMS. Includes calculations that the toxicologist would perform, so a clear link between STEM & forensics. Would be useful for AS/A2 chemistry students so that they might gain awareness of analytical applications to the ‘real world’. Will be useful to a teacher delivering forensic material to L3 and higher.

Measurements, Accuracy_Volumetric Skills

(0)
Presentation with activities on all matters that relate to accuracy of measurements. Explanations of errors, tolerance, calibration & drift, uncertainty, accuracy & precision. Included is a practical whereby students determine volume from mass and density data. Density data table included from literature. Also, for consolidation, is a crossword I’ve made on this topic. Essential learning for new sixth formers embarking on science subjects and practical work, also for higher level Year 11 science pupils.

Two powerpoints that support learning of forensic anthropology. Includes guidance relating to how an anthropologist would recover bones and considerations of what to record to build a profile (age; gender; stature). Useful for students of BTEC’s Forensic Anthrolopology and Archaeology Unit 14, and students interested in archaeology/anthrology/human geography/history.

Titrations Bundle

(0)
Two presentations with interactive activities: one introduces titrations placing focus on best practice, preparation of standard solutions, calculations; a second covering examples of titrations in industry with focus on the students exploring this further. A worksheet to practice titration and dilution calculations, with solutions. Pitched to Level 3 AS / L3 BTEC Applied Science students, also Higher GCSE chemistry pupils.

Lymphatic System Defence & Disease

(0)
Set of powerpoints. Explanation of the lymphatic system; tissues/organs linked to defence; role of B & T cells, nodes, antibodies; 2 diseases affecting the lymphatic system: Hodgkin Lymphoma & Lymphatic Filariasis; treatment regimens for both diseases (cancer and parasitic infection).
