These texts were shared-written with my class over the course of a year and contain all of the grammatical features a Year 5 or 6 child is expected to have in their writing - including the Greater Depth statements. Examples of features include: Modal and Passive verbs Expanded Noun Phrases Prepositional Phrases The subjunctive Colons and Semi-colons between independent clauses Brackets, Dashes and Commas for Parenthesis Punctuating direct and indirect speech These texts were written to engage a reader and I’m confident they’ll engage your class. This resource is intended to be used to help teach the skills of the KS2 National Curriculum for Reading, by domain. Included: • Comprehension questions for the first eleven chapters of the book. • A teaching PowerPoint with an introduction to the author, their other works and copies of the questions. This resource works best if the chapter is read, talked about and discussed in one day, then comprehension questions are given the day after. GPS questions to help a child reach the expected standard for the end of Key Stage 2. Included for every question is a mark scheme and examiner notes. These handy flip-packs enable children from Years 2-8 to improve their vocabulary choice within writing lessons. To create the final resource all you need to do is cut out each 'colour', laminate them and then hole punch through the hole on each laminated colour. A treasury tag can then be used to keep them all together. I have one of these on each desk my children sit at and they find them very useful. It also gets the point across that there are many ways of saying the same thing, but some ways are more impactful than others!
