I have blanked out the key words from my original revision sheet. To help students remember the quotations for Monday they must work out what is the missing word.
A worksheet that encourages students to develop their A03 analysis in A Christmas Carol.
Students are provided with partially completed high grade analysis of 14 key quotations from the text. The A02 analysis of methods is already present. Students must then complete the table by adding in the A03 analysis.
The following prompts are provided to help students come out of the text to explore A03.
A03 – Zoom out of the text. What is Dickens’ authorial message/big idea for his 19th century reader? What are the relevant 19th century contextual factors?
A03+ What makes the ideas in this text relevant to human beings NOW? What key concepts or universal truths about being human, or part of society, or a part of a relationship, or alive in the world, are being presented in this text?

Students contrast the pigs’ hatred of Moses in Chapter 2 with the way his presence is tolerated on the farm in Chapter 9 when the animals are hungry.

Differentiated starter: define the key words linked to male aggression and make links.
Main: Analyse 5 key extracts that demonstrate male aggression with a focus on A01 and A02. Suggested answers are on the PowerPoint to guide students through each extract.
Plenary: Draw a line graph to chart the intensity of male aggression across the play.
Also includes a band 5/6 model response to the question so students can look at how to develop their writing into a top band style response.

A grade 7 and a grade 8 slightly improved response to the following exam style question about Lady Macbeth. This is pretty similar to the May 2024 question but the featured extract was from Act 1 Scene 7 rather than Act 1 Scene 5.

Lesson 1 has carefully selected annotations followed by 13 comprehension questions based on the annotations.
There is also a starter activity involving an 8 minute clip from the film ‘The Not Dead’.
Lesson 2 recaps the first lesson before looking at how to improve grade 3 paragraphs by adding zoom ins and deeper inferences. The final activity asks students to compare the poem to Prelude, War Photographer and Bayonet Charge. To help with this, students are provided with matching quotations and a suggested basic writing frame.
A 45 minute (871 word) high level top band response to the following question: Starting with this extract, how does Dickens present Scrooge as an outsider to society.

Also includes 6 revision cards looking at 6 quotations about isolation.
A great Friday period 5-type revision activity which uses the power of images to help students both explore and memorise 16 quotations.
The worksheet features 16 quotes from Macbeth with 16 accompanying images. Students follow the differentiated success criteria and annotate the quotations for various shades of meaning.
Includes answers which can be printed separately or to form double sided revision cards.
When they have done this, I allow them to colour in the quotations.
