A set of English worksheets to be used for planning a story. The children plan their character, the setting, the time of the story and then what happens in the story using a story plan. These worksheets could be used in Early Years to introduce children to story planning and for children to use to orally retell a story or in Key Stage 1 for children to plan their own story to write. A sample slide from my Read a Picture - Developing Inference PowerPoint. The full PowerPoint includes nine pictures with guided reading questions and example sentence openers to develop inference in children. Each slide on the full PowerPoint includes a picture for children to look at and talk about followed by questions that appear one at a time for children to think about. Each question is followed by an example sentence opener to encourage children to answer in full sentences. My class have thoroughly enjoyed being reading detectives and, through practise, will now provide reasons and explanations for their answers. The PowerPoint can be used as a whole class activity or with small groups during guided reading sessions. Aimed at Early Years and Year 1 children. Set 1 only from my reading intervention that covers 100 high frequency words/HFW. The words are split into 13 sets with five activities for children to complete for each set. The activities are - read the words, find and colour the star words, match and colour words starting with upper and lower case letters, read the sentences including hfw and use the picture to fill in the missing word and read the sentences and draw a picture to match the sentences. Please note that the sets do not contain equal numbers of words due to needing to construct sentences that make sense. Aimed at Early Years and Year 1 children.

Set of three differentiated English worksheets focusing on the use of full stops only. Worksheet 1 - Children copy and add a full stop to one sentence at a time. Worksheet 2 - Children have to read two sentences at a time and identify where full stops need to be. Children to then rewrite the sentences. Worksheet 3 - As worksheet 2 and children then add their own sentences with full stops in correct places. Aimed at Early Years and Year 1 children. An example from my PowerPoint activity to support children to learn to spell Year 1 Common Exception Words, CEW, and to practise using these words in sentences. The children are shown the letters that they need to write one of the key words and then use the letters to see if they can write the word on their whiteboard using only the letters shown. They are then shown how to spell the word correctly. The following slide gives an example of the word being used in a sentence with an accompanying picture eg I am happy __ . Children to then practise spelling the word again before the correct spelling of the word is revealed in the sentence. The word list is divided into 9 weeks with 5 spellings to learn each week. Aimed at Key Stage 1 children however could also be used with Lower Key Stage 2 children.
