An example letter home from the point of view of Christophe from the children’s novel Christophe’s Story by Nicki Cornwell.
This exemplar letter to Babi is perfect to use as a WAGOLL after reading Chapter 3 of the text.
The model letter home comes with a feature identification worksheet for children to fill in, plus answer sheet that can be uploaded for remote learning or shared in class. The feature identification sheet can be easily edited to vary the challenge level and provide differentiation.
After identifying the features, pupils can write their own letters, based on the example text. These could be from the point of view Christophe or from the point of view of other characters such as Christophe’s father or mother.

Four worksheets aimed at learning how to accurately punctuate direct speech.
The worksheets are differentiated to cover a range of difficulty levels.
The speech punctuation used includes inverted commas (speech marks), capital letters, commas and end of sentence punctuation (full stops, exclamation marks or question marks).
Different formats of direct speech are given as examples with the reporting clause in different positions, including:
• The reporting clause before the direct speech
• The reporting clause after the direct speech
• Two or more sentences of direct speech together
• The reporting clause separating one sentence of direct speech
• The reporting clause separating two sentences of direct speech
A variety of verbs are used in the reporting clauses instead of ‘said’.
The worksheets can be completed independently or in pairs.
The worksheets are themed around a variety of traditional tales, but knowledge of the stories is not necessary to complete the activities.
Answers to all tasks are included.

The Iron Man by Ted Hughes is full of literary devices such as similes, metaphors and personification. Examples of these and more are explored to give pupils a deeper understanding of the text and enable them to create their own to enhance their writing.

These fun 340 word instructions contain the following features: language features such as metaphors, alliteration, onomatopoeia, repetition for effect and rule of three; grammar features such as exclamatory sentences, fronted adverbials followed by commas, expanded noun phrases, rhetorical questions and commands beginning with imperative verbs; and punctuation such as exclamation marks, question marks, apostrophes for contraction, apostrophes for singular possession, apostrophes for plural possession, brackets, colons and inverted commas.

The model recount text is a diary entry written from the point of view of the female protagonist.
The diary comes with a feature find task, which asks pupils to search for the following writing features including figurative language and other literary devices, grammar and punctuation:

Two example diary entries from the point of view of two characters - Barney and Lou - from the children’s novel Stig of the Dump by Clive King.
These exemplar diary entries are perfect to use as WAGOLLs when studying Chapter 1 of the text.
Each model diary entry comes with a feature identification worksheet for children to complete, plus an answer sheet that can be uploaded for remote learning or shared in class. One of the worksheets contains a wider variety of features than the other to increase the challenge level, providing differentiation.
After identifying the features of these recount texts, pupils can write their own diary entries, based on the example texts.
