A set of three expanded noun phrase activities and a noun phrase poster, all linked to Chapter 1 of The Iron Man (also known as The Iron Giant) by Ted Hughes. These resources develop pupils’ understanding of grammar, creative writing skills and engagement with the novel.
The following resources are included in the pack:

Noun Phrase Identifying Handout
Pupils identify the different parts of expanded noun phrases, and find the noun phrases in sentences, with activities getting increasingly more challenging. Example phrases and sentences are taken from Chapter 1 of The Iron Man. An answer sheet is provided for quick and easy marking.
Noun Phrase Writing Activity
Pupils create their own expanded noun phrases to describe the Iron Man by adding pre- and post-modifiers using the grid provided. An extension, a paragraph writing activity, is also included.
Noun Phrase Poster
Defines a noun phrase with examples of expanded noun phrases from Chapter 1 of The Iron Man. Display the poster on the wall or provide as a desktop reminder.
