I am Head of History and a Teaching and Learning Guide at a large secondary school. I teach all Key Stages with a focus on teaching GCSE and A Level to large classes. As I am in the classroom I understand the demands being placed on teachers by new specifications and assessment criteria. Through sharing these resources I hope to help teachers acquire new resources and ideas to make the step to the new specifications a successful one.

PPT and booklet with varied activities, such as card sort and cloze exercises, included to guide students and maintain engagement. Topics covered - Enclosure and problems, why people were poor etc. All answers needed on PPT to help teacher explanation.

THIS LESSON IS PLANNED ALONGSIDE THE PEARSON ELIZABETHAN ENGLAND TEXTBOOKS - PLEASE ENSURE THAT YOU HAVE ACCESS TO THIS BEFORE BUYING. This lesson begins with a multiple choice starter activity knowledge recap to remind student's of previous learning during the Edexcel 9-1 Elizabethan England course. Students are then supported in accessing information from the Pearson textbook on leisure activities. Record grid which could be further differentiated very easily is provided. Plenary task is a 4 mark exam questioning asking students to apply knowledge from this lesson.

Main lesson focuses on the availability and impact of Education. To allow independent work students can work through 6 information pages to select information to assess this. PPT guidance through evaluation of impact. This lesson could be easily differentiated further if needed, i.e. adding key words and vocab.

This lesson focuses on the reasons behind the failure of the Armada. In order to make the information concise a booklet has been created to guide students through the information in a relevant and interesting way, i.e. cloze exercises, source analysis, card sorts. Answers to card sort activities provided and differentiation in terms of how many cards match each heading. Further differentiation would be very straightforward if needed. This lesson links to the relevant section in the new Edexcel 9-1 GCSE.

This lesson is based on a booklet and PPT helping students to understand different aspects of rivalry between England and Spain. A starter activity based on a practice exam question recaps on Elizabeth's foreign policy decisions to provide context and various activities throughout the lesson and booklet help students to understand key turning points such as the Spanish Fury and the Pacification of Ghent. A final activity asks students to create a graph using evidence to reflect on the relationship between England and Spain over time. This lesson would be straight forward to differentiate further if needed.

Created for new Edexcel 9-1 GCSE but content is applicable for general study of Elizabethan England. This lesson analyses the significance and events of the Revolt of the Northern Earls. Various tasks in a booklet used to make the information concise and manageable for GCSE classes - tasks include gap fills, students collecting their own information from posters around the room (included in the PPT), supported discussion etc. Clear bell task, starter, main and plenary - practice exam question included for new Edexcel 9-1 spec. Differentiation included through support but also would be very simple to hone to your own classes needs by adding/reducing support points, independent work needed etc.
