YOu know that time of term when you need something which will work their brains but not look too much like work and give you some time to mark books etc?? Well look no further. These KS3 questions will give you that! They answer the questions and use the answer to colour the correct square in the grid. IT should spell Happy Xmas but what letter has been missed out?

voltage, resistance and current investigation

(0)
An introduction into current in a circuit and the way changing the resistance and voltage in a circuit changes the current. There is space to define voltage and resistance, an investigation using resistance wire, space to draw a graph and then an investigation into current around a series circuit. This is all in one 4 page handout. The fifth page has graduated differentiation questions to use with the graph from the resistance wire experiment with walk, jog and run questions to get every pupil stretched to their current level of ability. Suitable for KS3 and ISEB common entrance.

covering forces, energy types, density, pressure and circuits. This is a pdf and a publisher file, you will have to add your own diagrams to the publisher file. I laminate these questions and then get an answer sheet from Zipgrade.com. This will mark it as fast as your phone can scan it and show you scores student by student or question by question. Great for targeting feed back.

Internet research questions to go with Key stage 3, common entrance and middle school work on Light. This covers the electromagnetic spectrum, lenses and telescopes as well as the speed of light in different mediums. There are also questions on the structure of the eye and the role of different parts of it. The task usually takes 30 to 40 minutes and can be set to do at home, where internet access is available as well as in lessons. Both pdf and word documents available here.

Basic circuits and series and parallel introduction

This is for pupils looking at circuits around year 7. It is suitable for KS3 and ISEB common entrance. It reviews/introduces basic circuit symbols and then has different circuits to make to compare the brightness of bulbs. A great way to get the pupils making their circuits accurately. They are then asked to find out about series and parallel circuits and classify the circuits in the experiment into these two groups. After that there are a couple of questions about the advantages of parallel circuits over series circuits.

Pressure pupils work packfor common entrance and KS3

(0)
This is a pack that covers pressure and includes examples of things made to have a high and a low pressure, experiments into the pressure made by a rectangular block and by a pupil in different positions, sitting, standing and on the floor. Also includes graduated differentiation questions allowing the pupils to find their own level of challenge. We are afraid you have to provide your own lab equipment! (and pupils.....) There is also a user guide for you to get the most out of your pack. This is a publisher file so editable and a PDF version. Thoughts, comments or suggestions to hoppersphysics@sky.com

Light: Sending messages by light.

(0)
Useful for a lesson on different ways we send messages by light, in how we see things or a more general light topic this work sheet provides cross curricular links to maths and history and possibly fundamental British values as well as talking about broadband which means you can spring off into many different routes. The main challenge is for the pupils to independently make a code to send a message in pairs or groups as fast as possible. Often results in some great photos for sticking in workbooks, twitter feeds etc. Make the pupils do the work and get maximum science exposure! Useful for KS 3 and Common entrance GCSE, middle school and older depending on how you work the connections to other topics and subjects.
