This lesson focusses on the analysis of the final 4 stanzas of the poem. Students should have previously analysed the first 3 stanzas in the previous lesson (resources available in my TES shop). Based on the previous lesson, students now decide which AO they would like to focus on today. This lesson refers to the Oxford AQA IGCSE Assessment Objectives but can be adapted for your chosen exam board. There is a progress tracker for students to assess their knowledge at the beginning and end of the lesson, therefore measuring their progress.

Thomas Hardy Context Poetry GCSE

An engaging and interactive lesson in which students gather information about poet Thomas Hardy. Students conduct guided research before sharing their findings with their partner. The use of iPads or a device would benefit the student research although this is not essential as information about Hardy is already provided.

This allows the students to trace the character’s journey throughout the play and understand how each character develops.
