This Christmas quiz has four rounds including an editable subject round (in this case Geography and History questions but these can be changed to suit other subjects). The rest of the quiz works for events that have occurred this year, a music round (with a link) a subject specific round and a Christmas movie round. It should last a full lesson around 60 minutes.

There are task sheets that are great to consolidate learning in the structure of an examination question including the key information, explanation, link to a sociologist and to evaluate the method. They are related to crime and deviance however can also be altered for education should this be necessary. The sheets are an excellent revision tool as all of the learning is in a similar format for each of the areas and this therefore helps students make comparisons. This pack perfectly and succinctly summarises all of the elements and key sociologists for the Education unit for AQA AS/A2. It works well as a holiday revision or pre-assessment unit content revision or I initially made if for a student that had missed a great deal of the course. The notes can be used to set weekly tests and also use them to apply and think independently about how research methods are also threaded through the unit so there is an A3 summary Education and research methods sheet included!

There are sociologists as reference points largely for AQA and OCR courses in addition to opportunities to critique and evaluate. Sheets work best if printed on A3.

All of the evidence that they have then created is used t structure the examination question at the end of the lesson.

This lesson covers the question about what are the uses of a fold mountain range as a result of the physical geography? Students look at the Geography of the area, the uses and apply to an examination question to consolidate learning. There is also a homework activity about sustainability and management and the sorter activity is included.

This lesson follows a typical examination structure of looking at causes and effects of flooding in a less developed country, Bangladesh. There are a variety of tasks and skills that are all planned and need to be printed directly from the power point or are attached. Students have to categorize, make decisions, evaluate and write an exam response using the information in the lesson. This lesson works really well as a comparison lesson for students after completing the River Severn Part 1 and 2.

This resource is a good end of year quiz that can be adapted as it is aimed at mid level KS4 as there are core elements that are covered in examinations for Rivers for rounds one (hydrographs, causes of flooding, long profile) and then Round 2 is the use of map skills including grid references and location knowledge, round 3 is a guess the location by making inferences from the clues in the locations and then Round 4 and a bonus round of problem solving. All with a Christmas theme and then the slides are duplicated for peer marking as shown on the preview. Works best with small teams in a class (3-4 in a team, answers and any activities that are not on the power point are attached!

This keynote training presentation works specifically at engaging boys in learning in lessons, establishing rapport, improving behavior and understanding preconceptions about boys and achievement of boys in the UK. The presentation is interactive so staff will be expected to participate and the training should last around an hour. This training works really well at engaging staff in understanding the gender gap and ideas on how to engage boys in lessons. Has been used at whole school and departmental level.

This lesson is a fantastic lesson to engage the students in what can normally be a dry topic when covering development! Students have to use a variety of skills including numeracy and there is extended reading and decision making skills, this can also be used as an assessment or stand alone lesson. Print the task sheets on A3 to make sure students have enough space to get all of their written work completed.
