This activity is working really well with my students. Divide the poems and themes up between players and they need to connect them all. E.g. Dominoes - alternate poem with theme. When connection is being made they must select a quote that supports their match. Extend task for higher ability, as they should be commenting on language techniques and effect on the reader. Happy gaming!

ACCURATE SENTENCE STRUCTURES: SIMPLE/ COMPOUND/ COMPLEX - CONJUNCTIONS

I guide my students through the colour-coded sentences - simple/ compound/ complex and complex-compound sentences. This way they are constructing their sentences and understand logically what the main clause and co/sub-ordinating clauses are too. All of my students can explain the differences between them with ease! Once the understanding is secure, this process can be transferred in all their writing. This lesson is so important for students throughout their education, in their exams and beyond! They always enjoy and remember it. IT REALLY WORKS!
