**VALENTINE’S DAY GEOMETRY. Finding the Sum of the Interior Angles of an Irregular Polygon. Full Set **
Students are presented with the outline of an animal who has lost his mate. They are told that the sum of the interior angles of animal in front of them is exactly the same as the lost mate.
Students are asked to work out the sum of the interior angles of the animal in front of them and then multiply to find the sum total of the interior angles of both animals.
Students can work out the interior angles of the animal in front of them by:-
Counting the number of sides and then applying the formula (n-2)x180
or…
Dissecting the shape into triangles and then multiplying the number of triangles by 180.
The combined total of the interior angles of both animals is found by simply multiplying the interior angles of the first animal by 2.
This is a PowerPoint document so it can be easily displayed on the board and/or printed for students to complete by hand.

Students are told that my beloved proposed to me on Valentine’s Day and are given a picture of the engagement ring on my finger. Students are asked to find the sum of the interior angles of the diamond and to prove it.
They can find the sum by applying the formula (n-2)x180 where n is the number of sides.
They can prove it by dissecting the polygon into triangles and applying the formula nx180 where n is the number of triangles created.
This is a PowerPoint Presentation so can be easily displayed on the board and/or printed for students to complete.

VALENTINE’S DAY GEOMETRY. Regular Polygons. Number of Sides from One Exterior Angle. Full Set
Students are told that my beloved proposed to me on Valentine’s Day and that I went to take a photo but the flash ruined it.
The flash obscures the diamond so students cannot see how many sides the shape has. All they can see is part of the diamond and a clearly identified exterior angle.
They are asked to use the one exterior angle given to work out the number of sides.
This is a PowerPoint Presentation so can be easily displayed on the board or printed out for students to complete.

VALENTINE’S DAY GEOMETRY. Irregular Polygons. Sum of the Interior Angles. Full Set.
Students are told that my beloved gave me some white chocolate hearts for Valentine’s Day but they melted in the box before I could eat them. They are presented with the solidified mess - an irregular polygon.
Students need to prove that the sum of the interior angles of the shape is (n-2)x180 where n is the number of sides.
They can find the sum by applying the formula (n-2)x180 where n is the number of sides. They can prove it by dissecting the polygon into triangles and applying the formula nx180 where n is the number of triangles created.
