This teaches the concept of repeated addition using multiples of 2, links it to multiplication and introduces basic multiplication of the 2 times table. Originally used with a year 1 class as a home learning introduction.

The Power point recaps different UK coins (their values). Then the power point introduces the cafe role-play where children have to calculate the cost of a person’s order and then work out what coins are needed to pay for it. It goes on to challenge them further to investigate all the combinations of coins that could be used to make the amount. It finishes with some thinking questions and a final amount investigation (a larger amount needing several coin combinations). Originally used with a Year 1 class as a home learning activity.

A maths problem solving activity where the children are introduced to finding rules and patterns. Children are introduced to a scenario then taught step by step how to work out the rule and describe the pattern. They are then given another scenario to work through themselves with another snake and a different pattern. Used with a year 1 class during home learning.
