Do you need a science project for your KS3 Science class? This life science research project is focused on habitats. Students will research 3 given habitats along with one of their own choosing! Support is provided to help the students get stuck in, including QR codes for them to scan with their device taking them directly to quality sources of information. The research tasks themselves are designed to guide students through their research. There is also an additional warm up set of questions that should not require research, designed to build confidence and retrieve prior knowledge about habitats that students may not realise they have! Included in this research packet: Introduction to habitats and task instructions. Warm-up questions – simple and engaging to get the students started. Habitat 1 (rainforest) research questions with space to answer. Habitat 2 (coral reefs) research questions with space to answer. Habitat 3 (polar regions) research questions with space to answer. Template for students to complete their own research on their chosen habitat. Resources to help the students with their research (QR codes with links to helpful websites). This task could easily take an hour or more. Students will require access to the internet. If I had a class with access to devices in school, this could also be a perfect sub/cover lesson if you are not in school. Alternatively, this would make a fantastic homework research project set over a week or more. The opportunities are endless with this fun and engaging independent research task!

There is also an application question to get the students showcasing their understanding. I have made this activity for my foundation tier year 10 students studying AQA GCSE Combined Science. As such, the content aligns with that specification. However, I do believe it would also be suitable for a high attaining KS3 group in year 8 or 9. My passion for science literacy is what has lead me to develop a range of science reading comprehension worksheet, as it is important for students to be able to access nonfiction reading comprehension outside of their English lessons. This lesson plan is designed to get students enjoying reading about science and applying what they have learned. The focus of the passage is the journey food takes through the digestive system, including answering such questions as: What is digestion system? How digestion system works? Where does the digestive system begin? Where does the digestive process start? What is the digestive system importance? What are foods good for digestion system? This activity is designed to get students thinking about the adaptations of the Axolotl and its current conservation status through a simple reading comprehension activity. Included in this resource is: A Lesson plan outlining how I would teach the lesson.
