All resources needed to run a short CPD session on the topic of command words and grade descriptors. Originally designed to work with the Ascentis awarding body for an Access to HE course, but can be useful for teachers of any subject and level. Several activities are explored and evaluated and teachers are given an opportunity to share their own practice.

An annotated presentation covering Carol Ann Duffy's 'Love' in which learners make predictions about the poem's meaning through an analysis of the lexis out of context before being given a series of statements to debate. Finally, they perform a close analysis of the poem.

This presentation focuses on the poem 'You' by Carol Ann Duffy. It can be used as an introduction to the teaching of her collection 'Rapture' or as an introduction to A-Level English in general. It also includes a method for approaching the analysis of poetry and an activity involving abstract art to get learners thinking about what makes poetry different to prose.
