ENGLISH FOR GERMAN SPEAKERS ESL EFL ENGLISCH ALS FREMDSPRACHE ENGLISCH ALS ZWEITSPRACHE
English present simple tense English present continuous tense task cards for German-speaking learners of English
These English present tense task cards focus on the use of the present simple and present continuous / progressive tense in English. The language level is advanced beginner English into intermediate English. These kinds of question card activities are perfect for language learners, really helping to create a lively language learning environment. Students can develop, embed, reinforce and refresh their developing knowledge of two key forms of the present tense in English in a cooperative, communicative and interactive way, independently of the teacher.
The cards have a bonus multi-skill focus on listening, speaking, pronunciation, reading and spelling in English. They’re great for helping students familiarise themselves with, and develop competence in, speaking, reading, writing and spelling in English in general, and certainly in the use of these tenses in particular. The cards are useful not only when you’re focusing on this particular grammatical concept, but also as an all-year-round starter, plenary and general ‘pick-me-up’ activity, as the goal is not simply to practise using the tenses, but also to enjoy working with English, and to feel confident about doing so. The questions range in complexity and challenge, and it can be useful to read through the questions with the whole class first to check everyone is able to access the language, and therefore the activity, successfully.
The resource comprises the following non-editable files:
36 differentiated question cards, 6 per A4 (8.5 x 11) paper. Print, laminate and cut out. Laminating is definitely worth the extra prep time and expense, as they’re far more learner-friendly, and they last in good condition for years.
answer recording sheet - we often also just use our class workbooks for this, particularly for this set, as the sentences are fairly long, so their class workbooks give them plenty of space to write.
answer key Answer keys are an essential element of this kind of learning activity, as they provide learners with an additional opportunity to engage with language and help them develop more independence in their learning.
question cards template for students to apply their knowledge practically and creatively, putting questions together for each other - this is a really challenging and popular activity, and essential for successful language learning.

ENGLISCH ESL EFL ENGLISH FOR GERMAN SPEAKERS ENGLISH FOR CHILDREN ENGLISH ANIMALS VOCABULARY CARDS learn a range of animals, and help to create a lively language learning environment. Children can develop their skills in word recognition and recall, pronunciation, speaking, listening and reading in a cooperative, communicative and interactive way, independently of the teacher. They’re a great way of looking at the indefinite article in English, and comparing the concept of gender in both languages too.
It doesn’t matter is any of the animals don’t feature in your immediate or even longer-term learning plan: the card games encourage children to engage happily and confidently with English, to identify cognates and near-cognates, and to begin to link spelling with sound in English. They also help learners begin to work out the meaning of unknown words using both visual clues and prompts, as well as linguistic indicators.
There are 24 animals featured, across a series of decks, which enable you to vary and differentiate your games:
Deck 1: picture and words cards, with both an image of, and the word for, the animal in English, which is useful for multi-skill learning, particularly in the introductory phase of learning animal vocabulary, and for familiarising students with the written word in English.
Deck 2: picture-only cards, useful for vocabulary recall
Deck 3: word-only cards in English, useful for word recognition, reading and spelling.
Deck 4: word-only cards in German, useful for a variety of games focusing on vocabulary recall
Deck 5: both English & German words on a single card, useful for close comparison of language, and recognition of corresponding words
Laminate the cards if you can, even though it’s extra prep and expense, as they are far-more learner-friendly, and last for years, so it’s definitely worth it. I have a set with decks on different colour paper: although it can reduce challenge in games, for absolute beginners it’s very useful, and also ensures learners with additional needs have extra support so that they can participate fully in the games and activities. Remember to vary the decks in the games to ensure maximum differentiation and challenge.
The animals featured are:
a bee : a bird : a butterfly : a cat : a caterpillar : a chicken : a cow : a dog
a donkey : a duck : a fish : a fox : a frog : a horse : a kangaroo : a monkey
a mouse : an owl : a parrot : a pig : a rabbit : a sheep : a spider
a turtle/tortoise

GCSE SPANISH KS4 SPANISH KS3 SPANISH PRETERITE TENSE AR VERBS CONJUGATION PRACTICE 25 high-frequency Spanish AR verbs, 150 conjugation questions, 3 differentiated challenges, answer keys ideal for advanced beginner Spanish moving into intermediate Spanish students who feel comfortable working with longer and more complex texts, which include a range of tenses. My students really like this kind of grammar activity, as they like to work and learn independently, which is a successful way of varying teaching and learning methodologies - I’ve found it’s really important to avoid predominantly teacher-led learning in the languages classroom.
The workbook focuses on the correct conjugation of verbs, rather than usage, but I definitely find it useful to remind students of a number of things when focusing on or revising tense and verb conjugation. Language learners tend to conflate what they know about grammar in their first language with the grammar of the language they are learning. For example, students with English as a first language frequently confuse the preterite tense with the imperfect tense when they are conjugating them, as well as when and how to use either tense.
The resource is structured as follows:
Two alphabetical verb reference lists: Spanish-English and English-Spanish, useful for longer-term reference too
Three differentiated conjugation challenges, each with 50 individual conjugations:
Conjugation Challenge 1: each verb conjugated in Spanish across a range of pronouns, with students writing the corresponding English verb conjugation.
Conjugation Challenge 2: gives the infinitive of each verb in Spanish, specifying the target pronoun. Students write the corresponding verb conjugation in Spanish.
Conjugation Challenge 3: students write the corresponding Spanish verb conjugation, and its infinitive, from a Spanish prompt.
Notes and Next Steps template to encourage my students to reflect on their progress, and think about what they can reasonably and realistically do to meet learning targets and progress in their learning

GCSE GERMAN KS3 GERMAN KS4 GERMAN IMPERFECT TENSE CONJUGATION PRACTICE 25 high-frequency regular & irregular German verbs in the imperfect tense, 3 differentiated conjugation challenges, 150 quick conjugations and complete answer key ideal for advanced KS3 German and KS4 German students who are developing their knowledge and understanding of conjugation in German, and working with notion of past tense in German. I do tend to introduce the perfect tense and imperfect tense fairly closely together, as usage of the tenses is not directly equivalent with English for example, particularly in spoken German. The workbook focuses on the mechanics of conjugation, rather than usage, but I’ve found that when my students are able to provide the correct conjugation very quickly, and out of a specific context, they feel really confident that their German conjugation skills are developing well, which is a key step in creating and producing correct German, in both oral and written form. My students really like this kind of grammar activity, as they like to work and learn independently, which is a successful way of varying teaching and learning methodologies - I’ve found it’s really important to avoid predominantly teacher-led learning in the languages classroom.
The resource has the following structure:

Notes and Next Steps sheet, which encourages students to think about how their understanding of German conjugation works, what progress they have made, what their targets for improvement might realistically be, and what they might reasonably do in order to meet those targets. Students also note down any new verbs they discover, which enables them to build up a really sound verb vocabulary bank.

GCSE GERMAN ALEVEL GERMAN KS5 GERMAN PLUPERFECT TENSE 25 high-frequency German verbs, 150 conjugation questions, 3 differentiated conjugation challenges, answer key & verbs lists, ideal for advanced KS4 German and KS5 Germanstudents who have a sound baseline understanding of conjugation and tense in German, are working regularly with the notion of past tense in German, and distinguishing between verbs that are conjugated with either haben or sein in the perfect and pluperfect tense. It’s actually really useful to introduce the pluperfect tense in German fairly closely with the perfect tense, as the patterns are identical, other than the auxiliary tense, and it allows students to compare and contrast the tenses, and to practice both fairly simultaneously - in my experience, students do not confuse or mix up the tenses when they’re learning and using them together.
I find it useful to remind students of a number of things when focusing on or revising tense and verb conjugation. For example with the pluperfect tense, students need to have a good grasp of the relevant auxiliary in the imperfect tense, and to get used to ensuring that the past participle is situated at the end of the clause or sentence. Forming the past participle of a whole range of verb groups follows a certain pattern, which students are able to identify and predict the more they work with conjugation.

PRIMARY SPANISH KS3 FRUITS CLASSROOM DISPLAY POSTERS My younger students love to see Spanish displays in the classroom, and they also work really well for older beginner Spanish learners too. There are25 fruits, definite article, feminine and masculine, singular and plural - that’s so useful as a way into the concept of gender.
I tend to vary my displays quite regularly, and have different posters up at various times of the school year. We use them as speaking and pronunciation prompts, and for guessing, vocab and spelling games too. We don’t actually learn 25 fruits at this stage, but I use a range that includes some that children may not know yet, such as starfruit and redcurrants. That’s ideal for discussing healthy eating, and for generally developing children’s vocabulary in their own language too. The posters work really well as flashcards too, and they’re great for introducing and practicing language with a ‘low-tech’ method, giving us all a break from the whiteboard, which children definitely enjoy!
The fruits are:
green apples
red apple
bananas
cherries
dates
fig
green grapes
red grapes
kiwi
lemon
mango
nectarine
olives
oranges
papaya
peach
pear
pineapple
pumpkin
raspberry
redcurrants
rhubarb
starfruit
strawberries
watermelon
The posters are 8.5 x 11 (A4) portrait size. There are two backgrounds to choose from - Spanish flag or black wave. There are two non-editable files in a zipped format. GCSE ITALIAN PRESENT TENSE -IRE VERBS CONJUGATION PRACTICE I’ve found that these are a great introduction to, and consolidation of, conjugating Italian verbs. There are 25 high-frequency regular and irregular -IRE verbs in the present tense. -IRE verbs with –ISC in their conjugation can be a little tricky, and these drills definitely help students embed the correct conjugation. I encourage students to look for patterns across all the verbs, such as the formal Lei form being identical to the conjugation of singular pronouns. The workbook focuses on the mechanics of conjugation, rather than usage, but I find it useful to remind students of a number of things when focusing on or revising tense and verb conjugation. For example, students whose first language is English do often try to conflate what they know about conjugation in both languages, and I frequently see attempts such asio sto lavorare for I am working or similarly io faccio lavorare for I do work. I refer frequently the difference in usage, and this is important particularly when explaining when and in which contexts to use the simple present and the continuous / progressive present tense. The Challenge One Answer Key has both simple present and continuous present tense to help embed this notion a little more.
The structure of the resource is as follows:
Two alphabetical verb reference lists: Italian-English and English-Italian
Three differentiated conjugation challenges, each with 50 individual conjugations:
Conjugation Challenge 1 each verb conjugated across a range of pronouns, with students writing the corresponding English verb conjugation.
Conjugation Challenge 2 gives the infinitive of each verb in Italian, specifying the target pronoun. Students write the corresponding verb conjugation.
Conjugation Challenge 3 students write the corresponding Italian verb conjugation, and its infinitive form, from an English prompt.

I encourage my students to visit the Ideas, Notes and Next Steps template regularly, reflecting not only on the verbs and conjugations they feel confident about, but also how they think their general skills in Italian might be developing through the activity - and equally importantly, what they can reasonably do to keep improving. They note any new verbs they learn, which helps them to build a really comprehensive verb vocab bank. We also use this to guide and inform whole-group discussion about progress and learning in general, which is a really useful learning activity in itself.

GCSE GERMAN KS3 GERMAN KS4 GERMAN HIGH-FREQUENCY GERMAN VERBS CONJUGATION PRACTICE This workbook focuses on 25 high-frequency verbs in the perfect tense. I’ve used these ‘quick conjugations’ for many years with my German students. My students find them to be a great way of practising, reinforcing and revising how to conjugate essential verbs in German. I’ve used them in a range of contexts such as independent work either in class time or at home, holiday refresher work, or individual activities for cover lessons. I tend to give my students regular opportunities to practise the conjugations during the whole schools year, and they find this really useful for mapping their own progress and developing their overall understanding of how German conjugation ‘works’.
I find it useful to remind students of a number of things when focusing on or revising tense and verb conjugation. For example with the German perfect tense, students need to have a good grasp of the relevant auxiliary in the present tense - there are verbs that require either haben or sein, and to get used to ensuring that the past participle is situated at the end of the clause or sentence. Forming the past participle of a whole range of verb groups follows a certain pattern, which students are able to identify and predict the more they work with conjugation, and these quick conjugations will certainly help to embed that successfully.

My students really like this kind of grammar activity, as they like to work and learn independently, which is a successful way of varying teaching and learning methodologies - I’ve found it’s really important to avoid predominantly teacher-led learning in the languages classroom. There are 150 conjugations across 3 differentiated conjugation challenges. I use these kinds of workbooks in lots of different ways: for practice during the introduction phase, for independent choice in class time, for home learning, for practice and revision during vacation and at return to class, and for cover lessons - they’re really versatile, and ideal for KS3 Italian students who are getting to grips with conjugation in Italian, and building their Italian verb vocabulary.
Though the workbook focuses solely on the correct conjugation of verbs, and does not look at word order in the context of full sentences, there are conjugation patterns that students can learn, recognise and apply, ensuring that their spoken and written Italian is accurate, and that their understanding of Italian across the skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing is robust.
The resource is structured as follows:

We also note down any new verbs we meet, which enables students to build up their own verb vocabulary bank.

They’re ideal at any time during the school year - it’s good for students to have a focus on functional French in their learning environment - ideal for Primary French and Year 7 Beginner French too.
The times are quarter to and quarter past the hour. There are two backgrounds to choose from - French flag or black wave, so 52 posters / flashcards in total. Laminate them if you can - they are definitely easier to manipulate if you’re using as flashcards to introduce and/or practise language, and also to display - you’ll be able to use them over and over again for years too.

MERCI BEAUCOUP ET BON APPRENTISSAGE !
KS5 GERMAN ALEVEL GERMAN ADVANCED GERMAN FUTURE PERFECT TENSE 25 high-frequency German reflexive verbs, including a selection such as sich kaufen to practise the dative reflexive pronoun, 150 conjugation questions, 3 differentiated conjugation challenges, answer key & verbs lists, ideal for KS5 German and advanced German students who have a sound understanding of conjugation and tense in German, are working regularly with the notion of a range of tenses and mood in German, and have a solid grasp of verbs that are conjugated with either haben or sein in the relevant tenses. It’s actually really useful to introduce the future perfect tense in German fairly closely with the conditional perfect tense, as the patterns are identical, other than the auxiliary tense, and it allows students to compare and contrast the tenses, and to practice both fairly simultaneously - in my experience, students do not confuse or mix up the tenses when they’re learning and using them together. The workbook focuses on the correct conjugation of verbs, rather than usage.
The resource has the following structure:
Two alphabetical verb reference lists: German-English and English-German.
Three conjugation challenges, each with 50 individual conjugations:
Conjugation Challenge 1: each verb conjugated in German across a range of pronouns, with students writing the corresponding English verb conjugation.
Conjugation Challenge 2: gives the infinitive of each verb in German, specifying the target pronoun. Students write the corresponding verb conjugation in German.
Conjugation Challenge 3: students write the corresponding German verb conjugation, and its infinitive, from an English prompt.

KS5 GERMAN ALEVEL GERMAN ADVANCED GERMAN CONDITIONAL PERFECT TENSE 25 high-frequency German reflexive verbs, including a selection of some not essentially reflexive, such as sich kaufen to practise the dative reflexive pronoun, 150 conjugation questions, 3 differentiated conjugation challenges, answer key & verbs lists, ideal for KS5 German and advanced German students who have a sound understanding of conjugation and tense in German, are working regularly with the notion of a range of tenses and mood in German, and have a solid grasp of verbs that are conjugated with either haben or sein in the relevant tenses. The workbook focuses on the correct conjugation of verbs, rather than usage.
Grammar books are not consistent with grammatical terminology, so in this context, the conditional perfect is I would have done or I would have been for example. I’ve used hätte & past participle or wäre & past participle as ich würde gemacht haben or ich würde gewesen sein are no longer commonly used in the way that ich hätte gemacht or ich wäre gewesen is for example. The conjugation is structured in the same way as the Konjunktiv II Plusquamperfekt, which is often called the pluperfect subjunctive in English grammatical terminology, though of course, the usage is different.

VIELEN DANK UND VIEL SPAß BEIM KONJUGIEREN!
KS5 SPANISH A LEVEL PLUPERFECT TENSE AR VERBS CONJUGATION PRACTICE 25 high-frequency Spanish AR verbs, 150 conjugation questions, 3 differentiated challenges, answer keys ideal for advanced KS5 Spanish / advanced level Spanish students who are working with more complex language and texts, includi which feature a range of tenses.. My students really like this kind of grammar activity, as they like to work and learn independently, which is a successful way of varying teaching and learning methodologies - I’ve found it’s really important to avoid predominantly teacher-led learning in the languages classroom.
It’s useful to remind students of a number of things when focusing on or revising tense and verb formation and conjugation. For example, language learners to often try to conflate what they know about conjugation in their first language, and the language they are learning, and with students with English as a first language I frequently see students using tener instead of haber as the auxiliary, though they have generally embedded the use of haber when they learnt how to conjugate the perfect tense. Students do need to to have a good grasp of the auxiliary verb haber in the imperfect tense to ensure that they can form the pluperfect tense accurately. In terms of the past participle, there are clear patterns in its formation, which students begin to be able to predict accurately: the more they see and use the participles, the more embedded these patterns become.

¡MUCHAS GRACIAS Y BUEN APRENDIZAJE!
GCSE ITALIAN KS4 ITALIAN KS3 ITALIAN 500 high-frequency Italian verbs, listed alphabetically both Italian-English and English-Italian - a great learning support resource for KS4 Italian moving into A Level Italian students, and useful also for KS3 Italian students, providing a language road map with learning goals, outlining the verbs they should ideally know by a specific stage in their learning.
There are 48 pages in the book, and all 500 verbs are listed alphabetically Italian-English and English-Italian. There’s also a first person conjugation reference in the present, perfect and imperfect tense, which is really useful for checking which verbs take essere in the perfect tense, and for the past participle. As students become more competent in conjugation, the first person reference enables them to predict accurately other forms of the verbs. I use the reference book for quick vocabulary quizzes too - either I or a nominated student shouts out an Italian or English verb, with teams giving the corresponding Italian or English verb - I’ve found this is a really successful way of avoiding more formal vocabulary tests, while still providing students with frequent opportunity to refresh and embed essential Italian vocabulary.
The verbs are useful for engaging with the following topics and themes:
youth, identity & lifestyle
fashion
culture, customs and traditions
relationships and family
technology and social media
sport, health and fitness
free time, hobbies and interests
entertainment and leisure
food and drink
local, national & international global areas of interest
transport
holidays, tourism and travel
environment, pollution, recycling and climate
social issues
school, college, current and future study
work experience, skills and personal qualities
employment, ambitions and career plans
