GERMAN EUROPE COUNTRIES AND CAPITAL CITIES GERMAN CROSS-CURRICULAR LEARNING EUROPE TWO MULTIPLE-CHOICE QUIZZES IDEAL FOR THE EUROPEAN DAY OF LANGUAGES TOO

Ideal for cross-curricular learning in German class: students can develop their knowledge of the geography of Europe in a cooperative, communicative and interactive way, independently of the teacher. At the same time, students are developing their German language skills: speaking, listening and reading in particular, as well as broadening their German vocabulary. We play both as a whole-group team quiz, and in pairs or small groups on a regular basis - students are particularly keen to see if they can beat their own points record, and are really motivated by their developing knowledge.
The set contains all European countries and capital cities, including some island communities such as the Faroe Islands and Guernsey. Each question has 4 answers to choose from. The correct answer is given in capital letters. The quiz cards are numbered, but questions can be asked in random order too: simply place all the cards in a bowl, box or tin, and work your way through.
There are two quiz challenges:
Challenge 1 gives the country as a prompt, with four possible capital cities to choose from.
Challenge 2 gives the capital city as a prompt, with four possible countries to choose from. This challenge uses the definite article in the responses to help consolidate students’ knowledge of the gender of individual countries and the use of the dative following the preposition von.
The card numbers for Challenge 1 are in the top right-hand corner; Challenge 2 in the top left-hand corner so that the cards can be organised and sorted easily. Laminate the cards if possible: they’re more learner-friendly, and remain in excellent condition for years.
Before playing, it’s useful to show students a map of Europe, so that they can visualize the location of each country and capital city, not only as an individual location with Europe, but also as a location in relation to other European countries and capital cities. This definitely helps students understand and memorise the countries and capital cities.

KS3 FRENCH KS4 FRENCH KS5 FRENCH EUROPE COUNTRIES, CAPITAL CITIES, FLAGS POSTERS FLASHCARDS IN FRENCH ideal for French students of all ages, creating an instant introduction to Europe in French, and promoting cross-curricular learning in French class.
The resource is non-editable in zipped format. It is copyright, all rights reserved. It may not be copied, shared, rewritten or distributed outside your own classroom in any way. The license for purchase is a single-user license only. Please read the Terms of Use carefully.
There may be a number of countries and capital cities that students do not know, or are not aware of, so the posters really help students develop their general knowledge and understanding of European geography. I’ve included a range of islands, such as the Faroe Islands, and I’ve also shown some countries, for example Armenia, that are often classed as belonging either to Europe or to Asia. There are also two posters for some countries, such as France, officially known as République Française - you can choose either that, or the more frequently-used la France to display.
The posters look great displayed horizontally across a particular learning area - alphabetically works well, though non-alphabetically is perfect for a country quest activity. They’re ideal for the annual Europe Day celebration, and The European Day of Languages, as well as an all year round learning display. I often ask ‘quick questions’ such as ***Quelle est la capitale de… ?***, or Oui ou non ? Madrid est la capitale de Portugal ? - there are lots of questioning and speaking opportunities, using the posters as visual prompts. Speaking does tend to be quite a challenging skill in French class, so getting the most from classroom display to encourage students to speak is really important, as they’re a great tool for encouraging students to speak, and to construct sentences, from the very beginning of their French learning.
There are two backgrounds to choose from - European map or plain. Laminate if possible, as they will display really well, and remain in excellent condition for years.

PRIMARY FRENCH VOCABULARY CARDS KS2 FRENCH VOCABULARY CARDS KS3 FRENCH VOCABULARY CARDS 495 BEGINNER FRENCH WORDS AND PHRASES WITH MATCHING ENGLISH CARDS AND VOCABULARY WORKBOOK 990 VOCABULARY CARDS WITH WRITTEN RECALL WORKBOOKS FIVE SETS @ £3.00 EACH IN THE BUNDLE
Files are non-editable files in a zipped format. Please read the Terms of Use - the resource is copyright, all rights reserved. It may not be copied, rewritten, shared or distributed outside your own classroom in any way. The license for purchase is a single-user license only.
The vocabulary groups are as follows:
salutations : jours de la semaine : mois et saisons de l’année : nombres 0-100 : ma famille : animaux : matières scolaires : fruits et légumes : couleurs : parties du corps : temps : pays : Quelle heure est-il? (o’clock/half past) : adjectifs : nourriture et boissons : verbes français : en ville : mots fréquents : français pour la salle de classe : Bavardons ensemble : conversation : questions et réponses
The Reference, Recall & Write workbooks have 18 pages, with an alphabetical French-English reference list of all 99 words & phrases. The Recall and Write challenges help students familiarise themselves with, and really embed, the range of vocabulary in the set, and also get used to reading, writing and spelling in French. My students use their recall workbooks quite a few times, simply covering previous answers. This means that prep and paper are kept to a minimum.
There are three written recall challenges in each workbook:
= Written Recall Challenge One students write the English word or phrase from a French prompt, with all the words and phrases grouped together in the same category
= Written Recall Challenge Two with this challenge, students write the words or phrases in French from an English prompt, and again, they’re all group together in the same category
= Written Recall Challenge Three the final challenge ‘switches’ at each question from French to English, and lists words and phrases randomly from each category. This challenges the memory more than when the vocabulary is in the order learners first learn it in, with the additional challenge of moving between the two languages
= Ideas, Notes and Next Steps encourages students to reflect on their progress
= Card template for creative and practical application of language
Laminate the game cards if you can - they are far more learner-friendly, and the additional prep and expense is definitely worth it, as the cards will last in excellent conditional for years.

I encourage my beginner German students to build up a comprehensive vocabulary bank that they can reference easily whenever they need it. I also use this kind of vocabulary list for quick vocabulary quizzes, spelling competitions and so on. I’ve put the numbers across two pages, because the size of the font is really important for all learners, but especially for beginner language learners, as they begin to familiarize themselves with***words and spelling systems*** in a new language. I have also uploaded a number reference sheet I give my more experienced German learners - it’s in landscape format, with all the numbers on a single sheet, so the font size is smaller - students who’ve been learning German for a while are comfortable with quite a lot of text on a single page. Have a look at it here:

PRIMARY SPANISH KS3 SPANISH NUMBERS 0-31 Tengo ¿Quién tiene? This is a whole-group lively & communicative language learning game, perfect for practising, reinforcing & refreshing how to count from 0 - 31 in Spanish. The game has a multi-skill focus: listening, speaking & reading, with an important bonus focus on social interaction and participation. It’s perfect for pronunciation practice too.
The aim of the game is to create a Spanish number chain as quickly as possible, starting with the first card cero, and ending with the final card, treinta y uno. The game works just as well if the number sequence is placed on the floor, a longish table, or other flat surface. I created the game for my young beginner learners, but I’ve also played the game with my adult learners, who really enjoy it too - the monster theme is popular with everyone! The design is four cards per page, which allows for a large font - this is really important for beginner language learners who are starting to familiarize themselves with the written word. Try to print in color if you can - it adds to the visual appeal of the game, which is a real motivator for learning.
Download, print out, laminate, cut out & shuffle the cards. I’d definitely recommend you laminate the cards, despite the extra prep and expense. They’re far more learner-friendly, and they will last for absolutely years. Distribute the cards, one or two per student, depending on how many students you have in your group. I often play too - students really do enjoy it when I join in, and they seem to work that little bit harder on their concentration, reading out loud and pronunciation. Students walk around the room, talking to each other in their best Spanish accent, sharing the information on their cards, until they have arranged the numbers in the correct order. The game works best played against a timer, regularly over a longer-term series of lessons - can students beat beat their own time record? I always do some high-speed counting warm-up activities, forwards & backwards, to get everyone ready to play!

The cards provide structured talk opportunities, and students are also able to work on developing their listening, reading and writing skills. The language and structures focus on German verbs taking sein in the perfect tense.
The reference book includes all the questions and answers written out in full - we use this as a year-round reference resource too, and it’s useful for quick whole-group translation, vocab and grammar quizzes, which are a great way of revising and revisiting language and grammar in a more interactive and varied way.
Students use the Notes and Next Steps template to reflect on their learning, and think about what they might reasonably do to progress in their learning. The question and answer card template is really popular too - it allows students to use their German practically and creatively, again using a multi-skill language learning approach.

Ideal for cross-curricular learning French and geography featuring 41 countries / territories where French is an official language as well as regions and territories where a significant number of the population speak French as either their first or second language, such as Vietnam. Each word wall card shows the country and capital city in French, and its national flag.
There may be a number of countries and capital cities that students do not know, or are not aware of, so the word wall definitely helps them fully develop their general awareness, knowledge and understanding of the French-speaking world. This means we can really make the most of the learning potential of classroom decor. I’ve used the definite article, as I’ve found that this helps embed the concept of gender in French, and that proper nouns, such as countries, are subject to gender agreement rules too.
I use the word wall to get students talking in French class too during Talk Time for example - quick questions such as Vrai ou faux ? Québec est la capitale du Canada ? or Libreville est la capitale de quel pays ? are really useful to encouraging students to speak in French.

The set features a range of high-frequency French Christmas vocabulary, useful either as an introduction to, or consolidation of, the target language. Students can also develop, embed, reinforce and refresh their general French language skills in a cooperative, communicative and interactive way, independently of the teacher. The questions are differentiated, and are aimed at advanced beginner French students. They address not only French numbers 0-31, French mathematical language and French Christmas vocabulary, but also a broad range of grammar points, such as definite and indefinite articles, question formats and gender agreement in French.
All the questions are in French, with the Christmas images providing students with visual learning support. The Christmas vocabulary and images help to develop students’ awareness of a range of Christmas traditions and figures in French-speaking countries, such as galette des Rois and Père Fouettard, which I’ve translated as Father Fouettard, rather than ‘Whipping Father’, and are also really useful for stimulating discussion about French Christmas practices and customs. This is a great alternative to more standard presentations and worksheets. Students also enjoy talking about other Christmas traditions they know or follow.
The resource comprises the following non-editable files:
= 48 differentiated question cards - laminate if possible, as they will remain in excellent condition for years
= answer key - this can also be laminated, and shared among groups of students for class work
= answer recording sheet - simply print as many as your particular groups need. My students generally use their class workbooks for working out and noting responses, though recording sheets are definitely useful for more formal assessment purposes.

Iideal multi-skill language learning activity for developing listening, speaking, reading, writing and spelling skills for German language learners of all ages - in my experience, adult learners really enjoy a few competitive games of bingo too! I’ve described the games as not grade-specific, as the general goal for me is not to learn a lot of German Christmas vocabulary as such, but to work quite specifically on German language skills development.
There are 100 grids in total, in both colour & BW. The color grids definitely look really good, but can prove expensive to prep - I have sets that I’ve laminated, and students use wipe-free pens, so that the grids can be used many times. Younger learners do tend to prefer the BW grids, taking some additional time to colour them in themselves. I often combine that activity with revision of colours, which can work really well too. The games are designed for players to cross off all the words or pictures on their grids in order to win the game.
This set comprises the following:
40 picture-only bingo 12-square grids, 4 per page (10 pages) You can give students a random selection of pages, with students selecting the order of grids they play from. You can also cut out the grids, and place them in a small bowl or similar object on tables. Students then select grids randomly from the bowl. For additional challenge, students can play all four grids in a single game. Colour and BW
40 words & pictures bingo 12-square grids, 4 per page (10 pages) Colour & BW
10 picture-only 30-square grids (A4 portrait format) Distribute the grids among students, several grids per student, which they choose randomly for every game. There should be several winners per game, depending on the size of the group. Colour & B&W
10 words & pictures 30-square grids (A4 portrait format) Colour & B&W
Calling card, featuring 32 German Christmas words. Print or photocopy double-sided to minimise prep. There are 8 check columns per page, so that you can really get the most from each card - call the words randomly, ticking them off as you go, so that you can check the winning grids. You can vary the use of the definite and indefinite article, singular or plural. Students should also be the bingo caller, rather than always the teacher.
Calling card, featuring the English translation of the German Christmas words. This is great for additional challenge - students hear the English word, and translate it quickly, looking for it in writing in German in the grid

PRIMARY SPANISH CHRISTMAS NUMBERS 0-20 ADDITION & SUBTRACTION CARDS WITH WHOLE-GROUP WARM-UP GREAT FOR YEAR 7 TOO! This is a set of Primary Spanish Numbers 0-20 Christmas games cards. I created them for my younger learners to practise their Spanish numbers around Christmas time - they love the Christmas theme! I’ve found that Christmas is a great time to revisit language learned earlier in the year, and the games cards are also multi-skill - reading, speaking, listening - they’re ideal for honing numeracy skills too. Children really like to work together as they play the games. I’ve described several games that are really successful for us that you can try. I always do a quick warm-up and recap of numbers before we play any number games, and the simple forwards and backwards counting presentation is ideal for this.
There are 72 calculations in total - 36 addition and 36 subtraction. The answer cards are marked with a plus or minus sign. This means that there are 144 cards in total - I always laminate my languages games cards because they’re far easier to work with and last for years - so do try to laminate them if you can.
