German Numbers 0-31 Challenge Cards really do help to create a lively language learning environment. Students can develop, embed, reinforce and refresh their knowledge of German numbers in a cooperative, communicative and interactive way, independently of the teacher. They have a bonus multi-skill focus on listening, speaking, pronunciation, reading and spelling. They’re great for helping beginner German students familiarize themselves with, and develop competence in, speaking, reading, writing and spelling longer words in German.
The cards are useful not only when you’re focusing on German Numbers 0-31, but also for cover lessons, as an all-year-round starter, plenary and general ‘pick-me-up’ activity, as the goal is not simply to learn how to count in German, but also to enjoy working with German, and to feel confident about doing so.
All questions are in German, and range in complexity and challenge, both in terms of language and number skills. I’ve used visual prompts such as maths symbols to ensure all learners can engage with the questions, and this helps them to begin to infer meaning from context, and to decode cues and prompts to foster understanding. Some questions focus specifically on German maths language, which students do not always engage with very often. The level of math is fairly simple, but certainly draws on prior number and arithmetic learning.
I’ve labelled the cards A-L, so that if you have the set of 48 task cards ($3), you can use them together.
Try this second freebie focusing on German Numbers 0-31 - these cards are also numbered a-l, but in lowercase, so that students can easily identify which set they are working with:

PRIMARY FRENCH KS3 FRENCH YEAR 7 FRENCH CHRISTMAS WORDS & PICTURES A great French Christmas picture & vocabulary reference resource for younger learners of French. It works well when students keep them carefully in learning files or folders for current and future reference. They also work well printed double-sided and laminated for small-group work in class.
There are 20 common French Christmas words with pictures that I’ve found ideal for children learning French. I’ve used a blend of masculine and feminine nouns, definite article and indefinite article and there are some plurals too. I use this to stimulate discussion about articles, the concept of gender in French (which is often quite contrary to some learners’ first language, such as English), and forming the plural in French. It’s also great for promoting discussion about Christmas traditions and practices in France and French regions, as well as other French-speaking countries, comparing them to other Christmas customs with which students are familiar. Over time, I encourage students to add to the list - by the end of their French learning programme, they’ll have a comprehensive French Christmas vocabulary bank.
There are two backgrounds to choose from - Christmas colours (which I tend to use as part of a French Christmas display), and blackline snow.

I like to have sets of super simple worksheets that I can give to my young beginner learners of Spanish, not only when they’re new to the target vocabulary, but also for refreshing and revising language they’ve learnt some time ago. Students can generally more easily assimilate new language and vocabulary when they are able to link it in their memory with a visual image, and it’s particularly important to match a clock time with the corresponding clock face when learning how to tell time. I give my students these worksheets at the same time as introducing half past the hour in Spanish, so that they can practise and embed both recognizing the time, and writing the time phrase itself. Students really enjoy the opportunity to test their recall too.
The worksheets are useful in a number of contexts: I use them for cover lessons, as starters, plenaries, five-minute refreshers and home learning activities. I occasionally use them for more formal assessment purposes too.

GCSE GERMAN A LEVEL GERMAN IDIOMS German Speaking Practice Encouraging students to speak can be quite challenging in the languages classroom, and I’ve found that even my more advanced learners can be quite reluctant, especially if the group is fairly large. I use a range of strategies to promote speaking, and idioms, proverbs and fun expressions which sound quite strange when translated literally are really popular - for example, we have regular competitions to see who can get the most idioms or expressions into dialogues and conversations. This works really well for students of all stages and ages. The posters show the literal translation, which generally sounds very odd, such as this particular idiom Alles hat ein Ende, nur die Wurst hat zwei - Everything has an end, only the sausage has two! and the correct corresponding translation. We also discuss other possible translations into English, which helps them understand the concept of translation, and that there are potentially many correct ways of expressing meaning accurately. The posters also lend the learning environment a real German ambiance, promoting the everyday use of German.
There are two backgrounds - the German flag looks great, but definitely uses a lot of ink, so you may prefer the poster without a background - this looks just as good! Keep checking back for more posters if you like them, as I have a huge collection!

GCSE FRENCH CONJUGATION PRACTICE SAMPLER I’ve created a lot of quick conjugation workbooks for my students and they’re really popular and effective. They’re a great way of practising, reinforcing and revising how to conjugate all the various verb groups and tenses in French. I use them in a range of learning contexts such as independent work either in class time or at home, holiday refresher work, or individual activities for cover lessons. Students really benefit from several opportunities to work through the workbook, once or twice a term across a whole school year is a great way of both mapping progress and developing overall understanding and competence.
The workbooks focus on specific sets of 25 high-frequency verbs in a range of tenses. They include modals, regular, irregular & mixed and reflexive verbs.
Each workbook is structured as follows:
Two alphabetical verb reference lists: French : English and English : French
Three conjugation challenges, each with 50 individual conjugations:
Conjugation Challenge 1: each verb conjugated across a range of pronouns, with students writing the corresponding English verb conjugation.
Conjugation Challenge 2: gives the infinitive of each verb in French, specifying the target pronoun. Students write the corresponding verb conjugation.
Conjugation Challenge 3: students write the corresponding French verb conjugation, and its infinitive, from an English prompt.
Notes and Next Steps sheet, which encourages students to think about how their understanding of French conjugation works, what progress they have made, what their targets for improvement might realistically be, and what they might reasonably do in order to meet those targets.
6-page answer key booklet
In this sampler:
high-frequency verbs list: French-English

Sopas de Letras are a fabulous way of encouraging learners to engage with the written word in Spanish, refreshing and reinforcing language as they complete the grids. This freebie features a fruits word search with answer key, perfect for beginner Spanish learners of all grades. The fruits include masculine, feminine, singular and plural, with a blend of definite and indefinite articles - this really helps learners think a little more creatively about language, and their new Spanish vocabulary - they may learn la manzana, and it’s useful to give students opportunity to think about grammatical concepts, and how la becomes una for example.
There is a Spanish to English grid, where learners are prompted with the Spanish word, and look for them in Spanish in the grid. For additional consolidation, each grid also features an English word list that they have to complete, really putting their knowledge to the test! Learners can tell in which direction the words are written by looking at the arrow key on each grid. Having a good bilingual dictionary to hand is also a good idea, as this provides a further focus on developing literacy in both Spanish and English, and facilitates learner independence.
There is an answer key grid, so that learners can check their answers - or use for a little extra help if they need it. Answer keys are really essential - they offer learners an additional opportunity to engage with language, and they genuinely enjoy ‘correcting’ their own, and particularly each others’ work! They’re a great teacher time-saver too, which is always a good thing!
The word search is in landscape format, as I’ve found this to be the best format for beginner language learners. This kind of activity is really versatile - I use as starters, refreshers, plenaries or fun-time fillers at any time during the school year, as well as when I’m focusing on fruits in Spanish.

I give my students of all grades and learning phases a whole series of reference lists, that build up into a really comprehensive reference bank over the course of their German programme. They’re really popular with my students, as they know they can just go to their reference file or folder, and find what they need. They tell me that they feel far more confident about their German when they have a good grasp of core German vocabulary. They’re great for quick vocab quizzes too.
There are two alphabetical lists - one German-English, and one English-German, as I’ve found that beginner German students prefer to have both as a reference resource. I’ve noted where a verb is separable, irregular or conjugated with sein. If my group is small, I provide students with a set of double-sided and laminated reference resources. My students all have a reference file or folder, again from the beginning of their learning, and part of helping them develop independence in, and responsibility for, their learning, is to give them opportunity to keep their learning resources in good order, and easily accessible.
The verbs are all in the infinitive form - it’s an important step in learning is to ensure that students quickly develop a useful vocabulary bank, are able to recognize high-frequency German reflexive verbs, and are confident with the meaning of those verbs in English - at that point we can move swiftly on to looking at conjugation and using the verbs in a communicative and practical context. We also use our reference lists to help students audit their developing German verb vocabulary.
The list is a great time-saver for teachers too - if you’re preparing resources focusing on high-frequency German reflexive verbs for your students, the list is a good starting point.
There are two backgrounds to choose from - German flag, which I generally use for German grammar or German vocabulary display, and plain.

This sampler features five questions from Sets 1 & 2 of my English Speaking & Writing Prompts. They’re suitable for intermediate to advanced intermediate English Language Learning students. Speaking and writing are language skills that learners tend to find very challenging, and increased engagement with language that requires them to both reproduce language they are already familiar with, and to be creative with that language in order to produce new language is really beneficial.
The questions in the sets are differentiated, addressing a broad range of ability, which aim to progress all learners. Tenses include present, future, near future, perfect and conditional. Question formats are likewise varied, to ensure maximum opportunity to work with the different ways to ask questions in English. Some questions seek to elicit very similar information, but are asked in different language: this avoids learners simply parroting learned responses to fixed prompts. The prompts are really versatile too, specifically with a focus on speaking and writing.
There’s a 2-page prompts master list, which is useful as a general reference resource, and we also use it for reading aloud and pronunciation practice, discussing in what ways we might adapt and amend the questions to create new prompts.
The prompts broadly address the following themes: college life & study; future plans; information technology; where I live; social & environmental issues; North America/UK & travel; social activity & daily life. I always remind my students that they do not have to ‘tell the truth’ in their responses! The important thing is to answer question correctly, appropriately and creatively. I encourage them to use the questions themselves as a frame of reference for their responses, and also when creating new prompts for each other, which is a really popular and successful activity too.

PRIMARY SPANISH SPANISH FOR CHILDREN BEGINNER SPANISH NUMBERS 0-21 LOS NÚMEROS EN ESPAÑOL 0-21 LIST I like to give visual vocabulary lists to my young beginner learners of Spanish, as they can generally more easily assimilate new language and vocabulary when they are able to link it in their memory with a visual image. Children glue them into their Spanish vocabulary books, or file them in their Spanish vocabulary folders with other vocabulary lists, which gives them an accessible and useful Spanish vocabulary reference bank for both class and home learning.
There are two versions to choose from - colour, which I use for Spanish vocabulary display, or BW, which saves prep expense, and is also a popular activity with younger students, who like to colour as they read aloud and practise their Spanish numbers.

The 12 questions feature a range of high-frequency German Christmas vocabulary, useful either as an introduction to, or consolidation of, the target language. Students can also develop, embed, reinforce and refresh their general German language skills in a cooperative, communicative and interactive way, independently of the teacher. The questions are differentiated, and are aimed at advanced beginner German students. They address not only German numbers 0-31, German mathematical language and German Christmas vocabulary, but also a broad range of grammar points, such as adjectival endings, definite and indefinite articles and German cases.
All the questions are in German, with the Christmas images providing students with visual learning support. The Christmas vocabulary and images help to develop students’ awareness of a range of Christmas traditions and figures in German-speaking countries, and are also really useful for stimulating discussion about German Christmas practices and customs. This is a great alternative to more standard presentations and worksheets. Students also enjoy talking about other Christmas traditions they know or follow.
The resource comprises the following non-editable files:
= 12 differentiated question cards - laminate if possible, as they will remain in excellent condition for years
= answer key - this can also be laminated, and shared among groups of students for class work
= answer recording sheet - simply print as many as your particular groups need. My students generally use their class workbooks for working out and noting responses, though recording sheets are definitely useful for more formal assessment purposes.

ANGLAIS LANGUE SECONDE ESL EFL ENGLISH COMMON VERBS FOR FRENCH-SPEAKING LEARNERS OF ENGLISH English language verb reference resource for French-speaking students focusing on high-frequency English verbs. I’ve found that the lists are a great learning support resource, and they’re really popular with students too. They work well when students keep them carefully in learning files or folders for current and future reference, either in class or at home. They also work well printed double-sided and laminated for small-group work in class.
This list is a third collection of 25 high-frequency English verbs that students will meet in the beginning to intermediate stages of English learning programs. They are common English verbs, so they will see, hear and use the verbs regularly in daily life. They include regular and irregular verbs, and are all in the infinitive form - it’s an important step in learning is to ensure that students quickly develop a useful vocabulary bank, are able to recognize English verbs, and are confident with the meaning of those verbs in French - at that point they can move on to looking at conjugation and using the verbs in a communicative and practical context. Students shouldn’t take on the task of learning 25 verbs all at once though - this is more of a longer-term reference resource that students can use to audit their developing English verb vocabulary - embedding the verbs into long-term memory will come through frequent usage.
There are two alphabetical lists - one English-French, and one French-English, as I’ve found that beginner language students prefer to have both as a reference resource. There are two backgrounds to choose from - England flag (which looks good as grammar / vocabulary display), and black wave - students tell me that this makes vocab lists more visually appealing, which is really useful when they’ve got a lot of vocab to work through and learn.
