French Europe 2 multiple-choice quizzes
Ideal for cross-curricular learning in French class: students can develop their knowledge of the geography of Europe in a cooperative, communicative and interactive way, independently of the teacher. At the same time, students are developing their French language skills: speaking, listening and reading in particular, as well as broadening their French vocabulary. We play both as a whole-group team quiz, and in pairs or small groups on a regular basis - students are particularly keen to see if they can beat their own points record, and are really motivated by their developing knowledge.
The set contains all European countries and capital cities, including some island communities such as the Faroe Islands and Guernsey. Each question has 4 answers to choose from. The correct answer is given in capital letters. The quiz cards are numbered, but questions can be asked in random order too: simply place all the cards in a bowl, box or tin, and work your way through.
There are two quiz challenges:
Challenge 1 gives the country as a prompt, with four possible capital cities to choose from.
Challenge 2 gives the capital city as a prompt, with four possible countries to choose from. This challenge uses the definite article in the responses to help consolidate students’ knowledge of the gender of individual countries.
The card numbers for Challenge 1 are in the top right-hand corner; Challenge 2 in the top left-hand corner so that the cards can be organised and sorted easily. Laminate the cards if possible: they’re more learner-friendly, and remain in excellent condition for years.
French Europe Posters
These French Europe flashcards / posters are always really popular with my students and great for the beginning of a new school year to decorate your learning environment with specific learning goals. They’re really useful for creating and instant and comprehensive introduction to Europe in French. There are 144 portrait posters (A4, 8.5 x 11) in French showing European countries, capital cities and flags. They give your classroom a great multicultural look and feel, at the same time promoting French as a living language, featuring in the everyday life of your - and your students’ - classroom. There may be a number of countries and capital cities that students do not know, or are not aware of, so the posters can help students develop their general knowledge and understanding of European geography.
It’s definitely extra prep and expense, but I do always laminate my classroom display posters / flashcards - they hang on the walls more easily, and I recycle them to display at different times of the school year. There are two backgrounds to choose from - Europe Map or plain.

KS3 GERMAN KS4 GERMAN GCSE GERMAN 3 SETS OF 99 GERMAN VERBS CARDS WITH MATCHING ENGLISH CARDS AND 3 VOCABULARY WORKBOOKS @ £3.00 EACH IN THE BUNDLE
Files are non-editable in a zipped format. Please read the Terms of Use carefully: the resource is copyright, all rights reserved. It may not be copied, rewritten, shared or distributed outside your own classroom in any way. The license for purchase is a single-user license only.
297 high-frequency German verbs in the infinitive form. They offer an interactive and communicative alternative to more traditional vocabulary and grammar drilling activities. The alphabetical German-English lists of all 297 verbs work well as a long-term reference resource. The cards are versatile, and can be used for a number of language learning games; I’ve described several that are popular with my students.
There are 3 differentiated recall challenges:
= Challenge 1: students recall and write the English verb from a German verb prompt. The verbs are in alphabetical order.
= Challenge 2: again, students recall and write the English verb from a German verb prompt, though the German verbs are in random, rather than alphabetical order. Students do often learn new vocabulary in alphabetical order, so it's important to work on recall in random order too.
= Challenge 3: gives an English prompt, and students recall and write the corresponding German verb, which engages their recall slightly differently, and is a great way of perfecting spelling too.<
I give my students regular opportunities to revisit the games and workbooks, and to note their progress on the Notes and Next Steps template. We use this to reflect on learning and progress, and to set targets - It's a really successful way of embedding vocabulary, and of mapping progress. Students also note any new verbs they learn, helping them build a comprehensive verb bank, which really enriches their creative writing in German. It's also an effective tool to guide and inform whole-group discussion about learning.

GCSE FRENCH VERBS KS4 FRENCH VERBS KS5 ALEVEL VERBS GRAMMAR THREE SETS £3 EACH IN THE BUNDLE - 594 MATCHING FRENCH AND ENGLISH VERBS CARDS WITH THREE REFERENCE, RECALL AND WRITE WORKBOOKS
Files are non-editable in a zipped format. The resource is copyright, all rights reserved. It may not be copied, rewritten, amended, shared or distributed outside your own classroom in any way. The license for purchase is a single-user license only. Please read the Terms of Use carefully.
Each set features***99 high-frequency French verbs with 99 matching English verbs cards*** and the activities really do help to create a lively language learning environment, ideal for GCSE French learners, as they prepare to move into and work confidently at advanced French A Level French. The games and activities are a really successful alternative to more traditional ‘vocabulary drilling’ exercises.
The game cards and accompanying Recall & Write challenges have a bonus multi-skill focus on listening, speaking, pronunciation, reading, writing and spelling. It doesn’t matter if any of the verbs don’t feature in your medium or even longer-term learning plan: this is a great way of encouraging your students to engage with new language, and to build their vocabulary at the same time. This prepares them really well for creative activities in French - they will have a rich vocabulary to choose from.
Each Reference, Recall & Write book has 18 pages. It includes an alphabetical French-English reference list of all 99 verbs in the particular set. The Recall and Write challenges help students familiarise themselves with, and really embed, the range of verbs in the set, and also get used to reading, writing and spelling in French. It’s also a great way of developing literacy skills in French. The challenges can be done several times, as students simply cover previous responses, so they definitely get a lot of use from a single workbook.
There are three differentiated recall challenges in each workbook:
Written Recall Challenge One students write the English verbs from a French prompt, with all the verbs in alphabetical order, French-English.
Written Recall Challenge Two again, students write the verbs in English from a French prompt, but the French verbs are now in random, rather than alphabetical order. Language learners often learn or are familiar with new vocabulary in a particular order, so it increases the recall challenge by changing that order.
Written Recall Challenge Three the final challenge requires students to write the corresponding French verb from an English prompt. The English verbs are also in random order. This challenge really helps with vocabulary recall, which is quite challenging when vocabulary does not appear in the context of a sentence. It’s really useful for spelling in French too.

Set 1: o’clock & half past the hour - students often find half past in German quite tricky, so the focused practice is particularly useful
Set 2: quarter to & past the hour
Set 3: range of analogue times
I generally work with telling the time in German quite quickly with my beginner German students, as it lends itself really well to promoting speaking in the classroom, discussing daily routines for example.
There are two questions: Wie spät ist es / Wie viel Uhr ist es? with a particular clock face, and students write the response on their recording sheet or in their workbooks. The second question is Richtig oder falsch and students write either richtig or falsch - where the answer is falsch, remind students to write the correct time for additional consolidation.
Each set comprises the following non-editable files:
= 60 question cards, 10 per A4 (8.5 x 11) paper
= answer key & recording sheet
Laminate the cards if you can - they’re far more learner-friendly, and remain in excellent condition for years. Print each set on different colour paper if possible, as they are more easily organized.

The questions have a multi-skill focus on listening, speaking, pronunciation, reading and spelling. They’re great for helping students familiarize themselves with, and develop competence in, speaking, reading, writing and spelling longer words and more complex sentences in German.
Sentence structure and word order may differ from students’ first and/or home language, so it’s important to provide them with opportunities to engage with language that moves beyond single-unit vocabulary as soon as possible. It also gives them chance to apply language in a practical, real-world context, which in turn helps embed both vocab and grammatical concepts into longer-term memory.
The cards are useful not only when you’re focusing on the target vocab, but also to work on German language skills in general, such as cases, adjectival endings, grammatical structures such as um… zu + infinitive and so on.
The questions are all in German, and range in complexity and challenge. I usually read through questions before my students work with the cards for the first time, to ensure that everyone understands any new or unknown language and structures.
There are 35 fruits and 37 vegetables addressed in the challenge cards, and it’s unlikely that they are all in your teaching and learning plan. I always include additional vocabulary to add a little challenge, and to encourage students to think a little more creatively and independently. There are alphabetical German-English and English-German fruits and vegetables lists withmasculine and feminine fruits, definite and indefinite article, and singular and plural. This really helps students familiarize themselves with grammatical concepts without explicit instruction.
There are several***translation questions*** , both from German to English and English to German, which is a great introduction to translation for beginner learners. I explain that there are several possible correct alternatives, as translation is not a word-for-word activity, which is definitely useful for them to know from the very beginning of their learning.
The question card template enables students to apply theirknowledge of language and grammatical concepts creatively and practically too - my students really enjoy creating questions for each other, and I encourage them to use the existing questions as a frame of reference as they create their own, and to include fruits and vegetables that are not already in the vocabulary lists.
Each set comprises:
= 36 question cards*, 4 per A4 (8.5 x 11) paper
= answer key & recording sheet
= alphabetical fruits & vegetables lists, German-English & English-German

The bundle consists of non-editable files in a zipped format. Please read the Terms of Use carefully. The bundle is copyright, all rights reserved. It may not be copied, rewritten, shared or distributed outside your own classroom in any way. The license for purchase is a single-user license only.
These French Speaking Practice cards are perfect for developing speaking skills and for engaging with a range of language and concepts within a single activity - there are 300 question and answer cards and three reference books aimed at advanced beginner to intermediate French learners, with a focus on beginning and general conversation, some cultural knowledge and using French reflexive verbs in the present tense. There are 48 reflexive verbs featured in the Q & A activities in Set 3, and an alphabetical French-English verb list in the reference book.
The cards are also great for multi-skill language learning - they give students structured talk opportunities and definitely get them listening, reading and writing. As their confidence and competence develop, my students begin to rely less on the prompts, and are able to produce language really creatively. The cards ideal for independent learning, and perfect for pair and small-group work. There are also a lot of games you can play with the cards, and I’ve described a range of those that work really well for us.
Laminate the cards if you can - it’s definitely worth the extra prep time, as they’re more learner-friendly, and they last for absolutely years. The reference books include all the questions and answers written out in French. Students find these very useful learning support resources and they’re also handy whole-group pronunciation practice and reading-out loud resources, as well as translation practice. My students use them to guide their own creative use of language, as a kind of writing frame, as they create new questions and answers for each other. We use the***Ideas, Notes and Next Steps template*** to reflect on learning, and to think about what we might reasonably do to progress in our learning - it’s really useful to guide and inform whole-group discussion. My students also note new verbs and vocab here too, which really helps them create a whole range of new sentences, questions and answers.
The question and answer card writing templates give students the opportunity to apply their French very practically, as they create both questions and answers for each other. This is a great team activity too.
