PRIMARY FRENCH FACTS ABOUT FRANCE YEAR 7 FRENCH FACTS ABOUT FRANCE ACTIVITIES Files are non-editable in a zipped format. They may not be copied, rewritten, amended, shared or distributed outside your own classroom in any way. The license for purchase is a single-user license only. Please read the Terms of Use. These activities really do help to create a lively language learning environment for young learners of French, and offer a popular alternative to more traditional, teacher-led***information about France*** lessons. Children can develop their knowledge of the francophone world - and through guided whole-group discussion - their home / host country too, in a cooperative, communicative and interactive way, in part independently of the teacher. There is a bonus multi-focus on listening, speaking, pronunciation, reading, writing and spelling, and is a great way of aligning language learning with developing literacy skills in English. The resource comprises the following non-editable files: 20 facts cards - there are four facts in each of the following topic groups:arts & culture; country; famous people; history and language. There are blank templates for children to research and create their own facts cards for each other, and providing them with opportunity to apply learning and knowledge creatively. Over the school year, children should regularly add to their facts cards, which in time creates a fabulous bank of facts about France. Facts recording sheet challenge level 1 - there are two options: either two or four fact recording boxes per page. Children read their selected facts, and copy the information in the boxes. Facts recording sheet challenge level 2 - there are also two options: two or four fact recording boxes in this challenge level. However, there is a more open-ended task: responding to the question “What did you learn?”. This requires children to read their fact card, process the information, and then recreate it in their own words, describing the fact in the context of what they have learned. 24 question / comprehension cards — the questions have a differentiated range of challenge, and are based on the knowledge developed through the whole-group presentation and discussion, and the facts cards. There are some independent research questions, which I use as a springboard for further discussion based on children’s own developing interests about France. There are blank templates here too - creating questions is a great way to think about and apply knowledge and learning. question / comprehension cards recording sheet whole-group facts presentation & discussion MERCI BEACOUP, BON APPRENTISSAGE ET BON VOYAGE !

PRIMARY FRENCH CHRISTMAS KS3 FRENCH CHRISTMAS WORD SEARCHES PERFECT FOR DEVELOPING FRENCH LANGUAGE SKILLS WITH A FESTIVE FEEL! Files are non-editable in a zipped format. The product is copyright, all rights reserved. It may not be copied, rewritten, amended, shared or distributed outside your own classroom in any way. The license for purchase is a single-user license only. Please read the Terms of Use. ideal for Primary French and KS3 French My students love to do these word searches around Christmas time - we do them several times in the run up to Christmas - they really are great for developing reading, writing and spelling in French - and engaging with French Christmas vocabulary too - my older students really enjoy them too. There are 30 French Christmas words, which helps them to develop awareness of some Francophone Christmas traditions and figures, such as Saint Nicolas and Père Fouettard. I also use this as a prompt to stimulate discussion about French Christmas practices and customs, and we talk about what students know about other Christmas traditions around the world. The nouns feature masculine and feminine, singular and plural and both definite and indefinite articles, which is a great way of working on and consolidating those grammatical concepts too. Word searches are really easily differentiated: there are 5 French to French grids, as well as an English word list that they have to complete, really putting their knowledge to the test. There are also 5 English to French grids, where the prompt words are given in English, and learners have to find the French equivalent in the grid - they also have to complete the French word list on each page for extra spelling and vocabulary practice. The challenge gets more intense through the grids - students can tell in which direction the words are written by looking at the arrow key on each grid. I always give answer keys to my word searches - that works really well in terms of helping students work and learn independently together without me, and gives them even more opportunity to engage with French. There’s a reference list of all the French Christmas words too - this is a really useful support resource to ensure all learners can do the searches. They’ll have to look carefully at some of the words though - for a little extra challenge, sometimes I’ve changed words slightly - such as using ‘an elf’, where the reference list shows ‘the elves’. It may not be copied, rewritten, amended, shared or distributed outside your own classroom in any way. The license for purchase is a single-user license only - please read the Terms of Use carefully. Ideal for Primary French Immersion and beginner French students of all ages and stages, providing them with a great opportunity to engage with the written word in French, at the same time developing essential beginner French vocabulary. They are easily differentiated too: the grids have an increasing level of challenge, to ensure that all students can feel confident about their learning - and lots of chances to keep challenging themselves. The direction the words are located in the grid is indicated with arrows. There are 5 French to French grids, with an additional vocabulary list to complete for extra spelling practice. There are also 5 English to French grids with a vocabulary list to complete, which is an effective way of consolidating vocabulary. All the grids have a corresponding answer key, which are essential in order to maximise the learning potential of the activity. They facilitate learner independence, also giving them an additional opportunity to engage with the target language - they also genuinely enjoy assessing their own, and each others' work. The word searches are really versatile, useful in a range of learning contexts, such as starter and refresher activities, fun-time fillers, cover lessons, or free-choice activity at any time during the school year. PRIMARY SPANISH YEAR 7 SPANISH KS3 SPANISH MONTHS AND SEASONS OF THE YEAR WORD SEARCHES ten differentiated word searches focusing on the months and seasons of the year in Spanish. Files are non-editable in a zipped format. The resource is copyright, all rights reserved. It may not be copied, rewritten, shared or distributed outside your own classroom in any way. The license for purchase is a single-user license only. Please read the Terms of Use. My students really enjoy practicing their vocabulary with word searches. They like to work independently, either alone, in pairs or in small groups, challenging themselves and each other to progress through the challenges. In general, sopas de letras are a fabulous way of encouraging learners to engage with the written word in Spanish, refreshing and reinforcing language as they complete the grids. Word searches are easily differentiated too. In this set, there are five Spanish to Spanish grids, with the Spanish words as prompts. Students then find them in Spanish in the grid. A great way of really consolidating vocabulary is to get students to complete the word list on the grid sheet too. There are also five English to Spanish grids. With these, the prompt words are in English, so students have to know the correct Spanish word in order to find it in the grid. There's a word list to complete on these too. As the challenge increases, the words appear in an increasing number of different directions, and students can identify which directions they're looking for by referring to the arrow key on each grid. The word searches are in landscape format, and each grid has a corresponding answer key, which provide students with an additional opportunity to engage with language, helping them develop more independence in their learning. This kind of activity is useful in a variety of learning contexts: for cover lessons, as starters, refreshers, plenaries or fun-time fillers at any time during the school year. It may not be copied, rewritten, amended, shared or distributed outside your own classroom in any way. The license for purchase is a single-user license only. Please read the Terms of Use carefully. 99 high-frequency German verbs with 99 matching English verbs cards really do help to create a lively language learning environment, ideal for advanced beginner German learners, as they prepare to move into and work confidently at intermediate German level. The games and activities are a really successful alternative to more traditional 'vocabulary drilling' exercises. Students can work independently of the teacher, challenging themselves and each other in their best German accent to find all the matching verbs cards in German and English. The card templates allow students to apply their German knowledge practically and creatively, as they put together mini-quiz cards for each other, preferably from memory. There are three differentiated recall challenges: Written Recall Challenge One students write the English verbs from a German prompt, with all the verbs in alphabetical order, German-English. Written Recall Challenge Two again, students write the verbs in English from a German prompt, but the German verbs are now in random, rather than alphabetical order. Language learners often learn or are familiar with new vocabulary in a particular order, so it increases the recall challenge by changing that order. Written Recall Challenge Three the final challenge requires students to write the corresponding German verb from an English prompt. The English verbs are also in random order. This challenge really helps with vocabulary recall, which is quite challenging when vocabulary does not appear in the context of a sentence. It's really useful for spelling in German too. There are 42 pages in the book, and all 500 verbs are listed alphabetically French-English and English-French. Verbs that are conjugated with the auxiliary être verb are indicated by (être) following the particular verb. The books are ideal for***KS4 French*** students, and as a refresher and verb audit for those moving into advanced level A Level French. For UK teachers, these are roughly GCSE / Standard / age 16 examinations moving into advanced level, all examination boards (AQA, Edexcel, Eduqas, SQA). We use the Notes and Next Steps template to think about progress and vocabulary knowledge. Students find this really useful, and do like to map and track their own progress. It can be helpful in guiding and informing whole-group discussion about learning and progress in general, which is a really useful learning activity too - students also note down any new French verbs they learn, enabling them to build a really comprehensive verb vocabulary reference resource. My students have always found these a really useful learning activity. With the structured speaking prompts, they are able to develop confidence in their speaking, working independently in pairs or small groups. At the same time, they are building their vocabulary and enhancing their understanding and knowledge of English grammar too. There are 15 questions with 15 suggested responses. As students become more confident and competent, they begin to rely less on the prompt cards, and answer questions in their own way - and even ask them differently too, if their talk partner is using the answer card as the main prompt. The questions in this freebie are aimed at advanced beginner to intermediate English students, though my more advanced students enjoy ‘going back to the start’ too, particularly near exam time. There’s a reference sheet, with all the questions and answers written out in full for additional learning support. The games and activities are a really successful alternative to more traditional ‘vocabulary drilling’ exercises. Students can develop, embed, reinforce and refresh their core Spanish verbs vocabulary in a cooperative, communicative and interactive way, independently of the teacher. The game cards and accompanying Recall & Write activities have a bonus multi-skill focus on listening, speaking, pronunciation, reading, writing and spelling. It doesn’t matter if any of the verbs don’t feature in your medium or even longer-term learning plan: this is a great way of encouraging your students to engage with new language, and to build their vocabulary at the same time. This prepares them really well for creative activities in Spanish - they will have a rich vocabulary to choose from. The Reference, Recall & Write workbook has 18 pages. It includes an alphabetical Spanish-English reference list of all 99 verbs. Students find this really useful as a learning support resource, and it comes in very handy for quick vocabulary quizzes too. The Recall and Write challenges help students familiarize themselves with, and really embed, the range of verbs in the set, and also get used to reading, writing and spelling in Spanish. It’s also a great way of developing literacy skills in***Spanish***. The challenges can be done several times, as students simply cover previous responses, so they definitely get a lot of use from a single workbook. There are three differentiated recall challenges: Written Recall Challenge One students write the English verbs from a Spanish prompt, with all the verbs in alphabetical order, Spanish-English. It may not be copied, rewritten, shared or distributed outside your own classroom in any way. The license for purchase is a single-user license only. Please read the Terms of Use. I have, who has? is a whole-group lively & communicative language learning game, perfect for practising, reinforcing and refreshing a range of animals in French. The game is ideal for language learning, with a multi-skill focus: listening, speaking and reading, with an important bonus focus on social interaction and participation. It’s perfect for pronunciation practice - I point out particular phonemes, sounds and accents too - such as the silent x on the plural of cheval : chevaux, and this is really useful at ***consolidating accurate French pronunciation. There are 25 animals featured in the game: bee : bird : butterfly : cat : caterpillar : chicken : cow : dog : dolphin : donkey : duck : fish : fox : frog : horse : kangaroo : monkey : mouse : owl : parrot : pig : rabbit : sheep : spider : tortoise / turtle All the animals may not be in my immediate or longer-term learning plan, but the learning objective of the game moves beyond simply learning or consolidating individual units of vocabulary or practising particular grammar points: it’s about actively learning new language too. The images are essentially visual prompts and clues, helping students infer meaning from context. The longer and more complex sentences really help students focus on reading out loud accurately, and think more carefully about language, and how to pronounce it correctly. There is implicit input on grammatical concepts such as singular and plural, adjectival agreement, gender, definite, indefinite and partitive articles and position of adjectives, either preceding or proceeding the particular noun, which can differ from language to language: I’ve found this is really useful for students who may be learning more than one language at a particular time. This is a very successful way of really getting the most of what looks like a straightforward game for consolidating the target vocabulary - it is actually so much more. Laminate the cards if you can: they're more learner-friendly, and last in excellent condition for years, so you'll be able to use them over and over again. The game has a***multi-skill focus: listening, speaking & reading***, with an important bonus focus on social interaction and participation. It’s perfect for pronunciation practice too. The aim of the game is to create an English number chain as quickly as possible, starting with the first card zero, and ending with the final card, thirty-one. The game works just as well if the number sequence is placed on the floor, a longish table, or other flat surface. Laminate the cards if you can - they’re more learner-friendly, and they remain in excellent condition for years. Distribute the cards, one or two per student, depending on how many students you have in your group. An instant introduction to the scope of the Francophone world, promoting French as a living language, spoken widely across the world, and featuring in the everyday life of the learning environment. There are countries or regions where a significant number of the population speak French as either their first or second language, such as Viet Nam. Each flashcards / poster shows the continent, country and capital city in French, and its national flag. There may be a number of countries and capital cities that students do not know, or are not aware of, so the word wall definitely helps them fully develop their general awareness, knowledge and understanding of Les pays francophones - students are often genuinely amazed at the scope of the French-speaking world - French is spoken on every continent! I’ve used the definite article, as I’ve found that this helps embed the concept of gender in French, and that proper nouns, such as countries, are subject to gender agreement rules too. The flashcards / posters are 8.5 x 11 (A4) portrait size. There are two backgrounds to choose from - French flag or plain, so 80 flashcards / posters in total. Ideal for***beginner German*** students, helping them to familiarize themselves with the concept of conjugation in German, and to engage with German personal pronouns. The word searches are great for independent learning. Haben and sein are key German verbs, and it’s a good idea to introduce them to students as soon as possible, so that they can begin to build and create their own sentences from a very early stage in their learning. Each grid is in landscape format, 8.5 x 11 cm (A4). The grids increase in challenge, and students can see which direction the words are in by the arrow key. There are 5 German to German grids, where they are prompted with the German verb, and look for it in the grid. For additional consolidation, there’s an English verb list to complete. There are also 5 English to German grids, where the prompt is in English, and they look for the equivalent in German in the grid. They also have to complete a German verb list. There is an answer key for each word search, giving students an additional opportunity to engage with the language, and they really enjoy correcting their own, and particularly each others’ work - answer keys are also great for helping students develop more independence in their learning, and are a great teacher time-saver too. GERMAN SEPARABLE VERBS PERFECT TENSE

(4)
GCSE GERMAN KS4 GERMAN KS3 GERMAN SEPARABLE VERBS CONJUGATION PRACTICE 25 high-frequency German separable verbs, 150 conjugation questions, 3 differentiated challenges, answer keys ideal for advanced KS3 German students who are working with more complex language and texts, and KS4 German students who are revising tense and conjugation. My students really like this kind of grammar activity, as they like to work and learn independently, which is a successful way of varying teaching and learning methodologies - I’ve found it’s really important to avoid predominantly teacher-led learning in the languages classroom. The focus is on common separable prefixes such as ab, an, aus, ein, um and zu. Prefixes such as entlang and entgegen are not included in this particular collection of verbs. I find it useful to remind students of a number of things when focusing on or revising tense and verb conjugation. For example with the perfect tense, students need to have a good grasp of the relevant auxiliary in the present tense - there are verbs that require either haben or sein, and to get used to ensuring that the past participle is situated at the end of the clause or sentence. Forming the past participle follows a certain pattern, which students are able to***identify and predict*** the more they work with conjugation, and these quick conjugations will certainly help to embed that successfully. The resource has the following structure: Two alphabetical verb reference lists: German-English and English-German. Three conjugation challenges, each with 50 individual conjugations: Conjugation Challenge 1: each verb conjugated in German across a range of pronouns, with students writing the corresponding English verb conjugation. Conjugation Challenge 2: gives the infinitive of each verb in German, specifying the target pronoun. Students write the corresponding verb conjugation in German. Conjugation Challenge 3: students write the corresponding German verb conjugation, and its infinitive, from an English prompt. Notes and Next Steps sheet, which encourages students to think about how their understanding of German conjugation works, what progress they have made, what their targets for improvement might realistically be, and what they might reasonably do in order to meet those targets. answer key Have a browse in my store for more German grammar activities, and a wide range of other German teaching and learning resources, with special offer bundles, and lots of freebies too! SPANISH VOCABULARY CHRISTMAS GAMES CARDS & QUIZZES

(2)
KS3 CHRISTMAS PRIMARY SPANISH VOCABULARY CHRISTMAS ACTIVITIES TWO SETS @ £1.80 EACH IN THE BUNDLE 396 BEGINNER SPANISH & ENGLISH VOCABULARY CARDS, 198 WORDS & PHRASES WITH TWO MULTI-SKILL 60-QUESTION QUIZZES I think that lessons in the run-up to Christmas provide the perfect opportunity to revisit language we’ve learnt earlier in the school year - my beginner Spanish students really enjoy going back over and consolidating the vocab that they were introduced to right at the beginning of their learning. I created various sets of Christmas-themed vocab cards to get them feeling festive - it definitely works! I tend to have several sets all ready, and keep them in learning folders, so that students can choose which vocab groups they want to work on, though often they like to work with the complete set, so it’s a good idea to have a couple of sets so that there are enough to go round. The Santa cards have vocabulary in the following word groups: = Los saludos = Los días de la semana = Los meses del año = Las cuatro estaciones del año = Los números 0 a 31 = Los colores = Los países del mundo The Snowmen cards have vocabulary in the following word groups: = Los animales (indefinite article, all singular) = Las partes del cuerpo (definite article, range of singular and plural) = El tiempo = Las frutas y verduras (definite article) = Las asignaturas (definite article) My students really like to learn independently, and I’ve described a range of games that they particularly enjoy. They love the competitive element of the whole-group quizzes, though the pdf version works really well too for small groups - and if you’re homeschooling. There are a lot of cards, which means quite a bit of prep - if you can, laminate them, not only because they’re far better to learn with, but also because you’ll be able to use them over and over again for years! The quizzes are no-prep, and good to go - they’re non-editable, because of the Terms of Use of the clipart and fonts I’ve used, so have a quick look through before you play - the whole-group version moves forward with a single click. If you’ve got a particular focus on vocabulary and grammar, Sets 1 and 2 are also available as a bundle for £5.00 here: https://www.tes.com/teaching-resource/dotty-christmas-dominoes-198-high-frequency-french-verbs-with-2-levels-of-challenge-11173737 There are two levels of challenge in this set: CHILLOUT CHALLENGE, with the verbs in alphabetical order CHAMPION CHALLENGE, with the verbs in topsy-turvy order – your students will really have to know their French verbs to create a perfect dominoe sequence! The verbs are in the infinitive form in French & English, and reference sheets of all verbs in both alphabetical and topsy-turvy order are included – students can use these as a support resource, and they double as a whole-group pronunciation practice resource too. I've classed the resource as suitable for Years 9-13, but it really does depend on the age at which your students begin their French learning, as well as the level they are currently at – and aspire to. They are definitely one for the visual and/or kinaesthetic learner. The dominoes do take a bit of prep - printing & laminating. Laminating is certainly worth the effort and expense, as you will be able to re-use the cards for many Christmastimes to come. The resource comprises a single pdf file. GERMAN VERBS DOMINOES #2

My students love to play these dominoes games and find them a lively and interactive alternative to more traditional vocabulary and grammar ‘drilling’ activities. They enjoy being able to work and learn independently, and I give them regular chances during the school year to play. The focus is on 99 high-frequency GERMAN verbs in the infinitive form. There are 3 games, each with a differentiated level of challenge. CHILLOUT CHALLENGE features the verbs in alphabetical order, GERMAN to English CHAMPION CHALLENGE features the verbs in topsy-turvy order, GERMAN to English SUPERCHARGED CHALLENGE features the verbs in topsy-turvy order, ENGLISH to GERMAN - your students will really have to know their GERMAN verbs to complete this sequence in record time! I’ve included reference sheets of all verbs in both alphabetical and topsy-turvy order for students to use as a learning support resource. I’ve classed the game as suitable for ages 11-18, because it really does depend on when your students begin GERMAN - the games work well with any appropriate year group, depending on their starting point. There’s a bit of prep - printing and cutting out. I always laminate my dominoes games because they last for years, so laminating is definitely worth the time and effort. The resource is non-editable. GERMAN TELLING TIME I HAVE, WHO HAS GAMES #1

KS3 GERMAN KS4 TELLING TIME O’CLOCK, HALF PAST, QUARTER TO AND QUARTER PAST THE HOUR - TWO GAMES, TWO DIFFERENTIATED CHALLENGES! I HAVE, WHO HAS? is a lively & communicative whole-group language learning game. The repetitive nature of the questions and answers, supported by the visual prompt of the clock faces, makes it perfect for practising, reinforcing & refreshing how to tell the time in GERMAN. The game has a multi-skill focus: listening, speaking & reading, with an important bonus focus on social interaction and participation. It’s perfect for pronunciation practice too. Half past the hour can be really tricky for beginner German learners, and these kinds of games really help to embed it. The aim of the game is to arrange the clocks in the correct order, starting with the first card, Es ist ein Uhr/Es ist acht Uhr, and ending with the last card Es ist viertel vor zwölf / Es ist viertel nach zwölf. Students can either create a human chain timeline, holding the cards themselves, or a card timeline, on the floor, a longish table or other flat surface. There are two games and two challenges: CHALLENGE 1 with the clock times in numerical order, and the Q & A Ich habe… Hast du…? CHALLENGE 2 with the clock times in topsy-turvy order, and the Q & A Hast du… Ja, ich habe… . This really encourages students to focus on their GERMAN clock times! Students can identify the particular challenge by the colour of the card - the font is also different, so printing is B&W is absolutely fine too. Play either as a whole-group game, or as a team game - which team can complete the challenge first? You can either play the challenges consecutively, or as a team game, swapping the challenges so that each team has a chance to play both challenges. This set features analogue clock times, 1-12, including midday and midnight, with o’clock, half past, a quarter to and a quarter past the hour. There are four cards with eight clock faces per page, which I’ve found to be the ideal size for students learning to tell the time, and with the multi-skill practice the games facilitate.
